I don't know how Idzik/Woody feel about firing Rex, but if they are serious about it, then I think a strong case can be made for firing him soon (during the season) and putting in some hapless temporary coach for the rest of the year, as opposed to waiting until after the season. Our schedule gets much easier in the 2nd half, Milliner might be healthy, some of the rookies might start getting better, and Rex and Geno both have a history of doing better when the season is already lost. I'd hate to finish 7-9 or 8-8 again, missing the playoffs AND getting shitty draft picks. Might as well tank the rest of the year and see if we can land a quality QB prospect.

What draft picks are shitty if you finish with a middle record? Those mid round 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks are still really good picks. By the 4th round and out you are looking at the same caliber player no matter where in the round you pick. If the Jets improve and can build upon that that is pretty valuable.
not since Weis was here. that's part of the problem with Idzik. shoe horning the only highly speculated QB onto a starting roster that was even less pro ready than Sanchez coming out. For all the issues, once you change coordinators, then you evaluate what the team has invested in the player. you don't PUSH in the shiny new guy that fell into your lap at 22. you groom him and be right in the long run... Idzik prays Foles doesn't miss a snap.
That's the one indictment on rex. He loves Cbs, but sucks at evaluating them. Even in Baltimore, their corners were better looking than they were performing...they were more or less the product of the Baltimore front 7

The chiefs already had 10 pro bowlers on their roster. Bad example. I liked your cardinals example better. But I agree, this is the modern NFL, rebuild should last two/three seasons. We've already made two seasons worth of roster moves and barely look any better.
Idzik has no idea how to go about a rebuild because drafting a project QB with a 2nd round pick onto a team with more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese and then handing him the starting gig on a silver platter has just set the whole process back by another two years.
