"Hi Mr. Sherman, take us through this play." ~Erin Andrews "I'm the best corner in the league." ~ Richard Sherman
It certainly paints with some pretty broad strokes, but also makes a pretty specific point which I agree with. I disagree with your perspective on Rex. We, as Jets fans love him, and even that is a split bag, but his bravado has been widely mocked, because many people are intimidated by confidence and mistakenly confuse it with arrogance. Which would Sherman's rant fall under. I say neither. It was excitement. Just look at SackExchange69's claim his rant sounded like a bumbling idiot and mush mouth. What he said was loud and aggressive but completely intelligible. Hardly bumbling or mushed. But in his perception loud and black equals bumbling and mushed. That is an indictment of himself not an indictment of Sherman. That is the point. The people who are criticizing him are widely the same as SackExchange69 -- because he is loud and aggressive he must be stupid and ignorant, thus his rant was just mushed speak from a bumbling idiot.
^I think Sherman has a trend of immature behavior on the field. I remember an interview with skip and Steven a. Where Sherman went off lost his temper, didn't answer questions and continued to say he was better in life then skip, the best corner in the game, and better then Revis. Then, he slapped Harbaughs ass after Seattle beat San Fran in the regular season, maybe funny, but totally immature. Finally, this in the NFC Championship game, with the whole world watching. Nothing, here is terrible, but it's a trend of immature behavior and poor sportsmanship. Maybe, the world is ready to accept this kind of showmanship, there was definitely a time where this behavior was non existent. Personally, I prefer the quiet/silent warriors. I also think bc the wide receiver position has supplied so many star divas of late, we are now getting the star diva defenders stepping out on the stage.
For the most part, people love confidence. I disagree with you about Rex. Obviously there are people that dislike his style, not everyone is going to be embraced by everyone. On the whole though, I think fans in general like his style and would love it in he coached in their city. That's just one example though - confidence in pop culture is embraced as well. I think most people didn't have a problem with Sherman's excitement and loudness, it was the arrogance. If you think he was just being excited and loud and people are mistaking that for arrogance, I guess we have no debate here -I strongly disagree with you. Outside of Foxboro, Bart Scott's rant was well-received. He was brash, loud and excited.. and black as well. Why was his well received and Sherman's criticized? Because his wasn't as arrogant. He didn't answer an unrelated question with "I'm the best".. that's why people find it off-putting because it was - not because it was loud or because he's black.
He's not the best corner in the game anyway. Revis is. and Revis doesn't have to tell everyone he is, like Sherman. If this post game interview was the first time he's made that statement, I'd shrug it off as just being overly excited. But your examples and there are others - show that he's just a arrogant punk
Sherman dropped to the 5th round, Jim Harbaugh bullied him in college, Harbaugh drafted Culliver over Sherman. He has every right to say what he wants because he made a play that probably has Harbaugh regretting that he didnt draft em.
It's easy for us non athletes to sit at home and critique everything a player says and does. These guy's are so competitive and talk so much trash on the field that we can't even begin to understand their mindset. Sherman did the right thing and issued an apology for his actions, which I didn't even think were so bad, and the fact that this continues to be an issue is just asinine.
I think Revis lost a step. Sherman is probably the best now, but it would be cooler if he didn't have to tell everyone.
Same here. And this is not Sherman's first "offense". He has a track record of this kind of behavior.
You are correct. He has every right to say whatever he wants. And folks have every right to think he acted like a classless punk for saying what he has every right to say. _
Partly because he hasn't held out every other year so the team is able to keep some depth. Revis complaining about Sherman putting himself ahead of the team is the most hilarious part of this.
We'll see how long that lasts. Sherman is going to be looking to get paid soon if he hasn't yet. I just think of how unstoppable Revis would have been on the Jets if we had a legit pass rush like the Seahawks or Jets line this year. He was still really good without it. As a pure one on one coverage guy, Revis is better than Sherman, although Sherman makes more big plays due to the great pass rush forcing the QB to make tough decisions.
Lets all not lose sight of the fact that Crabtree is pretty sorry. Not to mention what a bitch Harbaugh is, just ask Brandon Jacobs.
In the category of no good deed goes unpunished, Sherman's agent thinks his rant will make him upwards of $5 million in endorsements. _
Agreed 100%. Hopefully Richard Sherman continues to speak his mind, and not allow this criticism to deter him. He earns more respect from me if he is true to himself and doesnt allow someone else to influence his life.
Speakin' his mind was never the issue, at least for me. He says something about Crabtree in the offseason or before a game it is okay. After a game? Low class. I look at this stuff like boxing. Boxers talk a lot of trash before a match and then when they are done punching each other silly they almost always hug afterwards and congratulate one another for a good fight. Sherman has to work on his sportsmanship.
See I view it differently, I rather have him do what he feels is right rather than not do something because people will criticize it. It what it is, I respect your opinion, no man's opinion is ever wrong.
