not sure on his RT skills but he's a utility player for the o-line. he was good in the run game but coming off a year removed from football.
Mezz I am sort of shocked especially with your playing time experience for U to be barking up the wrong tree with Vlad Just think of him as the 2nd coming of VG & then you will be on on the right track with him
Exactly. Trading up creates holes on your team. That's why the Jets had no real depth on their OL. Taking a project in the 2nd round (Ducasse) is just insane. The bottom line is that Tanny is totally out of his element as a talent evaluator and as one who knows how to put together a winning football team. He once was excellent at negotiating contracts and handling the cap, but I'm not even sure about that any more based on some of the contracts he's handed out recently. He's good at getting value for trades, but again doesn't know what to do with the picks he gets. He trades away too many draft picks. His ego gets in the way. He likes to see his name in print so has to make the big flashy deal trading up or signing a big name FA. He's lost after that. He doesn't know how to find talent cheaply or in lower rounds of the draft. He is only one of the Jets best GMs because most have been completely incompetent boobs. He is not competent to be an NFL GM and should be fired. I don't know when a lot of Jets fans are going to wake up, but I hope it's soon.
The Jets had no real depth on the Ol b/c they missed on Ducasse and their best backup got hurt. A year ago we had Hunter and Turner as our backups- you won't find much better depth. Hunter moved into the starting lineup, Tunrer got hurt and Vlad is still developing so no depth this year.
I also haven't completely given up on Ducasse. Have I lowered expectations for him? Absolutely. Heading into year 3, I don't want the guy to be the starter, that's pretty low. But this guy was raw coming out of college, he still has that brute strength and size, and I think missing all the offseason workouts and coaching hurt him more than anyone on the team. I don't want him starting next year, but I could see him being a guy making strides in practice and then earning a starting job in 2013. We sorely need an upgrade at right tackle and blocking tight end. Left guard isn't vital that we upgrade, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to address it. Slauson is going to be 26 next year, so he should be hitting his prime. D'Brickashaw needs to play better as well. I'm not sure how much of his bad play was him trying to help Slauson, but he definitely did not play as well as he usually does. Tannenbaum also mentioned Schlauderaff as a guy making strides. I know next to nothing about him, and I don't want him starting opening day, but he's someone to keep an eye on for the future.
