The idea is not to send Robby down the middle; it's more like protecting him from the opposing DBs jamming him from the Los.
As he shown in previous years he doesn’t have trouble beating jams besides the jam is only the first handful of yards. His issue is that he is not tough, elusive or a good enough route runner for the Jets to use to the middle of the field. A free release is just one aspect of playing the slot.
And that's the only thing that makes him useful. Free release + vertical route. Can he grow into a competent route runner? Possibly. Can he bulk up? I don't bet on it. Jets should upgrade their offense a lot, starting with the OL, and then the WR. Seriously, the likes of Terrell Pryor and Robby Anderson shouldn't be playing in the NFL at all.
Dude you hit it on the money... I also saw that in both games vs CLE/MIA but Darnold went with the safe throws. Anyone that has ever played ball knows how frustrating and how much energy is expended when you run a wide open streak and the QB looks somewhere else. Unacceptable! Especially in the pros where opportunities like that are so scarce. Before the season I really wanted (and still do) for JM15 to start cause he hardly missed Robbie deep. Those 2 were destroying defenses last year. I’d also give him a pass on the 2 fumbles getting snucked up on from the back. Anyone see the same thing happen with Ezekiel Elliot? You also hear how great it is to have a WR that can stretch the field. He’s utilized wrong... his ability to track the ball long is INCREDIBLE. He can also “house” short throws with shear speed. Tough start for our team guys. Keep supporting.
Thanks for posting this man. Dude... twice he destroyed triple coverage against BUF and CAR cause the safeties thought they were fast enough to get to the spot. McCown is saavy enough to know RA11 is fast and just chucks it up. It’s amazing to watch. Hope JETS coaching staff is watching this YouTube highlight of RA11
Looks like Darnold has learned something: if he's going to air it out with Robby, he'd have to throw deep immediately after the drops. That got him 2 TDs this week against a pretty good Denver CBs. Why the hell not?
He's one of the NFL's most deadliest deep threat's but unfortunately hasn't been targeted enough, but with a rookie QB it's to be expected. Awesome to see him deep burn for two TD's today.
