Honestly it's easy to understand them. They are a bunch of deluted football fans who still live through their past when they had that undefeated season and won the Super Bowl. Since then they haven't done much even when they had Dan Marino, he still couldn't do anything in the playoffs after his only Super Bowl apperance and even that was a loss.

They always assume that they are the best in the AFC & the best in the league, even when they look like crap, their fans are still saying that they will still win with the players they have on their squad and will go on to the playoffs.

Every single year these dumb & annoying fans are going to scream & shout they are going to the Super Bowl, they smoke the same whacky tobacky & what happens? They haven't done anything since the late 90's. Even the Dolphins fans up here in the NY/NJ area are alot worse than the ones in the entire state of Florida who root for the phins. I have two Dolphins fans at work and I can't stand either one of them. One's a chatter box, while the other is a hit & run insulting piece of crap.

Glad to seet that they are finally getting their butts kicked these last 5 to 6 years.

Saban is Alabammy bound & I will be passing the Kleenex to them when they are crying.

Dungy has been in the league 11 years. If you compare them in the first 11 years for each of them, Dungy has been to the playoffs 8 vs 7 times for Cowher. Cowher went to the SB once and the 3rd round twice, Dungy went to the third round 2. Up until last year Cowher's 15th in the league he had a lossing playoff %. At the end of the day it's putting 3 or 4 together in a row that matters. Cowher has done it once in 15 years, Dungy hasn't done it in 11. If Dungy does it once or twice in the next 3 or 4, he is every bit the coach Cowher is. Cowher has been very fortunate that he has lasted as long as he has with 1 team. Knoll did the same thing. It may just be the owners of the Steelers are better than the coaches?

My only problem with the Dungy comparision is that in Tampa he only topped 10 wins once, and he was handed the reigns to a 12+ win team when he took over the Colts. In 99 the Colts won 13 games had a top ranked offense and a middle of the pack defense. That's pretty much the same situation they're in now, with Dungys playoff woes continuing.

I agree that if Dungy takes his team to a Super Bowl win he could be viewed as comparable to Cowher, but he hasn't done it yet. Other than that, no matter how you view it, a 5-8 record in the playoffs when you've won almost two-thirds of your regular season games is not by any stretch anything to brag about. There's no question that he already is comparable to Cowher as a regular season coach, but that's not what we're talking about.

I doubt that any Steelers fan would complain about Cowher keeping his job so long with the Steelers, since he won the Super Bowl in his 14th year, and has had 4 seasons with winning percentages over 65% in his last six. I think the comparison with Noll is way too easy given they both coached the same team, but not valid. Noll had NO seasons with a winning percentage over 65% in his last nine seasons, and only one in his last 12 (and that was in the strike season), and lost four out of six playoff games during that time. He clearly kept his job at least five years too long.

But you have to credit Dungy for pretty much building the Bucs, that defense him and Kiffin put together was always in the Top 10 and he had some sick defensive drafts.

Now when he got fired, Gruden wins the SB and the huge perception, even today is that Gruden won with Dungy's team. All Gruden did was input a good offense while adding Keenan McCardell and depened on that defense much of the year.

Now he stepped into a great situation with Indy's offense...And it's alarming that his defense is so bad right now considering how much this guy preaches offense and he barely even touches the offense.

He's a good head coach, nothing more, and not Top 5.

I haven't followed this entire thread so excuse me if my input is not relevant, but Cowher actually went to the superbowl twice. He lost SBXXX to the Cowboys with Neil O'Donnell at the helm.

    --edit--
Sorry, just realized you were talking about their first 11 years...

I'd be hard pressed to even put the modest label of "good" on Dungy's coaching abilities. No one talks about last year because of his sons suicide but that Steelers game was a disgrace and one of the all time worst coaching performances. The guy should've retired, and no one would've said anything but he comes back and the Colts are going to get lambasted by the Ravens in 2 weeks.

To me you can either win consistently in the NFL or you can't. The rest of it comes down to luck of the draw, there's only so much a coach can do once the game starts. Cowher was the poster child for good coaches who never won a Super Bowl and then he wins with a #6 seed the year after losing with a 15-1 team. Anything can happen. Games come down to a kick, a call, etc, it's not all the coaches, not even close.

That assumes that LJ doesn't carry the ball 45 times for 200 yards in a 17-14 KC win this Saturday!

the numbers are not a bit worse. They're significantly worse than the last two seasons.

This is really getting pointless, but I specifically said that 2005 was noticeably better. Here are the 2004 and 2006 numbers:

    2004 New England Patriots 16 16 474 288 60.8 3692 7.79 50 28 14 26/162 52 10 92.6
    2006 New England Patriots 16 16 516 319 61.8 3529 6.84 62 24 12 26/175 46 8 87.9

His completion percentage in 2006 was higher, he threw for 4% fewer yards, had a noticeably lower YPA average, and had the same TD/INT ratio. We can debate whether that is "a bit" worse or "significantly" worse, but I can't imagine why you would want to. And, of course, his 2006 was at least as good as his 2001, 2002, and 2003 seasons. The issue wasn't that he had his greatest year in 2006, it's that it wasn't that different from years in which he wasn't injured, led the team to Super Bowl wins, and had better receivers.

Yes, the only people who heard that the Dolphins coach left NINE HOURS AGO are people who post on a Jets board.
