I think he DID earn his $$$ here. He took us to 2 AFC CGs. I don't get it. All my life covering NY and non-NY sports -- 40+ years -- I have heard fans bemoan guys who put up great stats in the regular season and then "spit the bit" (Thanks, George !) in the postseason. Mark Sanchez was definitely an average or even slightly below-average QB overall in 4 regular seasons (I calculate the 4 years as Below Average, Better Than Average, Average, and Year 4 was Way Below Average). But in the post-season, he is Top 10 (Top 5 ??) overall in all-time QB Rating and the new QBR Rating. So Sanchez 'stinks' in the regular season and shines in the post-season. And nobody notices that !! But fans of Andy Dalton, Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, and a dozen or other "Big Name" QB's who keep flopping in big games avoid scrutiny. But hey, they'll throw for 400 yards against Tampa Bay in October so I guess that counts for something, right ?
EXACTLY! I'm not defending him. I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else that he's a great QB, a good QB, a shit QB. And I really don't think you're a poster that gives a shit about intimidation or can be bullied. The opinion that I am expressing here is not about Sanchez but how pathetic and shitty Jet fans are that constantly dump on an ex-Jet ON A DAY IT IS NOT DESERVED. Next week when he throws a pick 6 and another pick and a fumble--you can continue your crusade of hate to crush him. You picked the wrong game to dump on him. Shut the fuck up till next week because right now, it's seriously pathetic. _
I saw all of Todd's games. The game against Buffalo in 1981 he almost brought us all the way back (still can't forget Bruce Harber fumbling the opening KO for a Buffalo TD). The Mud Bowl they never changed the gameplan, they shouldn't have tried a pass over 10 yards. I blame Walton on that. Todd had a great game against Oakland in 1983, too. Try and see tape from that game -- Todd (and other QB's of that ERA) had no protection. Todd got savagely beaten by Alzado and the the Oakland line; I think back then a ROUGHING THE PASSER penalty was only called if you hit the QB 3 seconds after he released the ball. Todd took some hits where you wondered if he was still alive. He was a warrior that day -- and 99.9% of Jets fans don't recall that or know it. Hey, I just saw Lyle Alzado throw his helmet again at Chris Ward !!! LOL !!!!
hehe, there you go...and in the other 3 games he had 2 td's and 2 interceptions, not even a td a game. in one win he barely had 100 yards (and by barely I mean exactly). And here we have Junc trying to change the focus, I've already said Todd was a much worse QB than Sanchez (which you bypass)....so what's you're point? Nice try to change the focus But like I said already, Sanchez is better than Todd.... Really man, are you so desperate that you have to try and change what I said? C'mon man.
And why do you think they are saying that ? Who do you think Idzik wanted to win the competition ? Who told Rex -- implicitly or implied -- to put Mark back in the Giants game ?
Drew Bledsoe: Mark Sanchez was like Jets’ sacrificial ‘virgin’ Drew Bledsoe may have once lost his starting job with the Patriots to Tom Brady, but the former No. 1 overall pick is just glad he never played for the Jets. In an interview Monday on ESPN Radio, Bledsoe described sympathy for the shabby treatment Mark Sanchez received while playing for the Jets, following the new Eagles quarterback leading his team to victory with 202 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. “Going to play quarterback for the Jets … it’s kind of like, you know when they used to take the pretty young virgin up to the edge of the volcano and then just throw them in?” Bledsoe said. “That’s kind of what it is when you play quarterback for the Jets. It just feels bad. “Mark had to live with that for a long time. And people threw him under the bus like he was the whole reason for the demise of the Jets. … To see him be able to come on to the field in a good system, with good talent and perform well, I’m just really happy for him.” What the Jets would do for him now.
We can parse the stats for regular season and post-season, but by and large I think despite big physical differences Todd and Sanchez were pretty much in the same bucket as Average QB's. I think Ken O'Brien gets a shade higher for fewer interceptions and big mistakes.
You see this is where you're screwed up on your opnion, you are so hypersensative that you fail to see that the only point of the game I'm criticizing him on is the turnovers...why? Because that's always been Sanchez's biggest problem. Yes it's one game, but he played it like he's played all through his career. And again, my point, it's not Sanchez I'm criticizing at this point, it's the low expectations jets fans have of the position. And that's the last I'll say for now, time to go stand at the polls for a while.
Not a single beat writer covering the team had Geno ahead of Mark. Not one. The most they would say is that Sanchez had not ABSOLUTELY sown up the #1 job. Because they remembered Mark's 2012 season (when he was hurt, which was still NOT KNOWN in September 2013) and were hoping that Geno Smith was Russell Wilson.
Cowherd was killing Rex this am and used Sanchez as the poster child for what's wrong with his philosophy. _
Now it's Idzik's fault Mark was injured. Where is your proof that Idzik told Rex to put Mark into that game. If true he intentionally wanted Mark to get injured. Talk about being paranoid.
Honestly O'Brien would be much better loved by Jets fans if Marino had been selected by someone before him rather than after him. O'Brien played for some pretty crappy teams but he was a good passer, though he often held on to the ball too long. He's probably the Best QB the Jets have had since Namath (before his knees totally gave on him in 1970).
Eagles offense won't change with Mark Sanchez playing quarterback instead of Nick Foles http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/...laying_quarterback_instead_of_nick_foles.html
But how can you and others continue to say such a thing after the Geno performance during that preseason? The guy was an absolute mess, especially against the GIANTS. That was the game where it was clear, with anyone who paid attention, that Geno was too fresh and not starter material.
Mark wasn't hurt in 2012. Like all NFL players he played through injuries. So stop using it as an excuse for his horrendous play.
I'm actually not sensitive at all--I just don't understand the pathetic compulsion to dump on an ex-Jet after a game in which he played well and led his team to a win. Forcing you to go back and dredge up all your old metrics and statistical models and fake stats to prove --NO, HE DIDN'T HAVE A GOOD GAME because herpderp2012herpderpbuttfumbleherpderpdroppedINTsherpderp2009arrrggghhhhhhh!!!! Wow, comedy gold Jerry, GOLD I tell ya. _
There is "hurt" and there is "injured". Big difference and because you deny the difference does not make it true. Mark Sanchez was injured in 2012. _
