Totally agree. This one dimensional label is being torn apart because of all the things you mentioned. Thats interesting...what Rex has done sitting in the meetings..I never heard that before but it makes total sense. Probably has a lot to do with schottys new found happiness. Its very difficult to have a great running game with no passing game. While we lead the league in rushing...there were games where it never showed..or came slowly. Its pretty simple...we were able to control the game because of a few passing plays that basically dared the defense to put 8 in the box. Can the offense lay an egg this Sunday..sure...a rookie qb can poke its ugly head at anytime. Its just starting to become less and less likely because defenses have to either run blitz...or all out blitz the kid. Run blitzing and keeping linebackers in their gaps has allowed Sanchez to fine guys downfield. All out blitzes..going after the qb leaves defenses exposed to break away runs...and we have seen both the last couple weeks. What nobody is writing about is that this offense is on to something. The question is right now...have we found something that reveals itself here and there but is the future..or is it here now? We will find out this week. Regardless..its coming.
I don't understand why it took so long to get the correct offensive game plans in. I'm not a big believer of keeping someone simply for stability, I think you need the right person more than just keeping the same person. This current Schott is doing well, we'll see if he can keep the momentum going. If it's back to the 5 wide empty backfield shotguns on 3rd and 2 I don't want this guy back. I like Sanchez, have liked him for quite a while. I think Sanchez will thrive under any decent coordinator, and in a few years won't really need one anyway.
If Schotty stays another year and Sanchez improves alot, with all the NY publicity and another deep playoff run in 2010, then Schotty will be able to name his price and he'll be the hottest non-Super Bowl ex-coach for a job in 2010.
It's crazy how 3 good games can change the fan base's opinion of the guy. A month ago it was unanimous that Schott needs to go.
If Schottenheimer stays Schotty ver. 2.0 of late, I wouldn't mind him around for a long time. If he reverts back to Schitty, he better can his ass out of here ASAP.

I know one thing: Sanchez's first playoff game was a helluva lot more impressive than Ben Roethlisberger's first playoff game. I think they're getting things right at the moment, but they need to avoid the temptation to get carried away.
Jake, I'm one of the guy's who wanted BS gone based on his body of work over the past 3 years. However he has called the game much differently these past couple of weeks. I'm not ready to change how I feel about him based on 3 games but if the light has actually gone off in his head and he continues to call plays that keep his team in a rhythm and moving the ball and not stalling, maybe I might change my tune.

I've been against him leaving every minute of every hour since he's been here. ------------------ And I'm going to repeat myself, especially since almost everyone ignored the article I posted. The problem was Sanchez not "getting it." Sanchez was making poor decisions, and that led to problems on offense.
Favre was fine initially because the system adapted to him instead of him adapting to the system. The real issue I have with Schotty is that his intelligence and creativity, which are obvious, are outweighed by his lack of wisdom. He's a young guy and he lets things get to a boil over and over again when they'd be better off left simmering. If I thought he was really interested in being Rex Ryan's offensive coordinator for a period of years, and I thought that he was getting wiser as he got older then I'd be all for him staying and being part of the management of the Jets moving forward. What I see though is a guy who has suddenly had a lightbulb go on in the last few games and has radically adapted the game plan to favor the players he has on hand and the needs of the team. I have no clue whether that's a sign of emerging wisdom or whether it's the byproduct of Rex and Bill Callahan putting a ton of pressure on him not to be the reason the Jets fail. If he got it on his own then it's a sign of growth. If it was forced on him then it's just a sign that he's smart enough not to fight a losing battle at this time of year. I'm also very skeptical because I think he really wants to be a head coach and I don't think that ambition is going to go away until he gets a job and sees what the deal is, positive or negative. I hope he gets the Bills job.
