Excellent Post!!. Those who think we can just run over Cincy better think again. The D we saw last Sunday is not what we'll see Saturday afternoon. Sanchez willl need to make some big plays for us
Rex did say this...not like he could've said the opposite. I personally think that if we don't keep schotty, Callahan needs to be the coordinator. That would ensure some continuity in the offense that is important to a developing quarterback.
Not only do I think Rex keeps Schotty, it's even more likely we lose Callahan to another team looking for a new OC.
This is a good post. If you check out the interview video with TJ at the end from this week, he talks about how they've already faced some 10 man in the box situations this year. He and the line are convinced they can still succeed even in those situations. Schotty has even seemed to have bought in to the ground and pound at this point. I still expect to see a run heavy offense this week no matter what. As long as Sanchez can be efficient when he needs to be and eliminate turnovers we've got a shot.
I'm ecstatic. Schotty is going to have a lot of you people eating crow within the next couple years. Count on it. For those spouting the whole "Rex has to say that" bullshit, try watching a game or two. They showed Ryan and Schotty on the sidelines after Brad Smith's TD run last week, and they were excited, laughing, and high-fived on camera. The more time goes on, the more I think Rex sitting in on meetings was by Schotty's request, rather than a "Principal's Review" scenario. For most of the early season Schotty was complaining that Sanchez wasn't carrying his lessons on ball protection and such into games. Maybe having Rex in the room to say to Mark "Listen kid, do what your coach is telling you to do" is what has helped Sanchez reduce the stupid throws. We have the best rushing offense in football. Do you people all honestly believe that it has nothing to do with Schottenheimer? This site, and Jets fans in general, puzzle me to no end. Schotty is a good, dare I say great, OC. We're lucky to have him, and when Sanchez "gets right" in this system, people are going to be begging him to not take a job elsewhere.
Alio, I think the fumes from the makeup on your clown are affecting you. His scheme is not good, if you don't think that Rex took to heart his conversation with Bill Parcels about taking control of his team and being the HC, and not just having the title, I believe you are mistaken. Before Rex got involved, he had MS throwing 30 plus times a game and this notion that he is great, please look at the body of work from this man before you make such a statement. I would dare to say this, if BS were to leave and I hope he does, this offense does not skip a beat with Callahan or Cavanaugh, it would actually be better for MS.
this. I will give Schotty credit for his playcalling over the last 2 weeks or so....but let's be honest with ourselves....I need to watch him over the playoff run and into next season (provided he's still here) before I get on the "Schotty's changed" bandwagon. His playcalling has been suspect not only this season...but over the last 2 or 3 seasons. If he's changed, and bought into Rex's run-first philosophy for the long haul....I need to see it more consistently.
I'm on the keep Shotty bandwagon... consistancy in coaching staff is the recipie for success. Do you really want to dump our OC after our (possible) franchise QB's rookie season? In my eyes that would put Sanchez back at square 1 next season. Give him one more season... if he shits the bed then can his ass. It would be a totally different story if we had a vet QB starting in 09.
If that's the case, I'd rather promote him and lose Schotty. Callahan has been integral in our success and I'd much rather keep him and lose Schotty then vice versa...
Okay, nice douchepost. Why don't we look at the body of work he's produced? Like last year's league-leading rusher. Like this year's best overall rushing attack, even given Chris Johnson's ridiculous year. How about we look at last year where a gimpy Favre ruined an otherwise great season (one where we were ranked ninth in points scored, and overall rushing.) Now I get someone like abyzmul, who has a problem with particular facets of Schotty's playcalling. That's something I've openly complained about on this board. And it's a legit gripe. He makes some very questionable playcalls at times. It's this completely mentally retarded hate-Schotty-at-all-costs-and-want-him-gone-now garbage I can't stomach. Schottenheimer's offense, led by a rookie quarterback is in the playoffs. Now you can argue till you're blue in the face that the defense is the only reason why, but you'd just be wrong. The offense has not been elite this year, and that's solely because Sanchez is a rookie who repeated mistakes much too far into the season. However, we had the best running game in football. I notice how no one even mentions that when ripping Schottenheimer, as though it's got nothing to do with him. Newsflash: you can say whatever you want about the passing game becoming "smarter" over the past few weeks, but the run game has been steady all year, even after losing it's most explosive option and replacing him with a rookie. But of course, that's got to be all Callahan. Schotty can't be at all responsible for that.
Alio, every report on the planet credits the running game to Callahan and Schotty is mentioned as the man who just calls the running play. It really is callahan designing the running game. Its the newspaper articles I've read, not me being against schotty and taking credit away from him. Does schotty pick the right running play for a big gain? Sure, i'll give him that. But Callahan is the running game guru. My beef with Schotty is that he doesn't know time and place. His situational playcalling can get horrid at times and kill the rhythm of a drive. He also didn't seem to call the high percentage stuff to keep the ball and get 1st down after 1st down. But when you have a 21 play, 11 minute drive against Cincy's starters on sunday, he has chipped away at my hatred. He has to continue that for a full season now and I'll begin to support him. But it has to be the offense i've seen for the past two games for the entirety of 2010, and hopefully the playoff games in 2011.
I actually like his system alot and Favre showed glimpses of what a real passing attack could look like.(sans the meltdown) and that was the dumbed down version. Schotty as mentioned by others has questionable situational playcalling and that will get you under a microscope as a coordinator 9 times out of 10. I think his system requires a highly advanced QB to run the pass game efficiently. So either he needs to develop Sanchez right and show glimpses next year or itll be evident Callahan and the talented OL have been hiding his deficiencies. although its hard to ultimately slam the gavel down on a OC whos had a different QB like every damn year. next year will tell ALOT. Sanchez a year under the belt, chemistry with WR's should start to be evident and long as Sanchez doesnt show signs of being a bust next year should be the tell all tale of Schotty's system.
I think the assumption that many of us have is that Callahan is responsible for making the run game what it is. Some are frustrated with Schotty's "balanced" offense of 50% pass / 50% run. We've started to see a more run heavy game plan and are liking the results. Shotty, in that last press conference acknowledged that he is calling a more ruin based offense now than he was at the beginning of the year. That is very encouraging to see.
