He isn't saying your OC is awesome. He is saying your OC is being hindered by injuries and Sanchez and sometimes the OL... It's easy to blame the OC but if the players on offense are playing like complete shit, is it really the OC's fault?
I hate Schotty as much as the next guy, but he is not getting fired today, or even after the season. I am beginning to think the problem lies with Rex, who has no fucking clue about what needs to happen on offense to win football games. He likes ground and pound, and the dink and dunk offense (which normal people like to call, keeping the game close and playing for fg's). No matter how bad the defense has been at closing out close games (Could not do anything against NE (2x), Denver, Oakland, and if we go back to last year, Pitt, etc...), he refuses to tell his OC to open it up, try to get big leads, and take pressure off of the defense. Because of that, he has not fired Schotty, and will not do so today, tomorrow, this weekend, or even this off-season. The reason is because Schotty does what Rex likes on offense - conservative, boring play-calling, that is designed to prevent turnovers and keep games close. So, while Schotty should be fired, he will not be. And the sad truth is that there is almost no way an offense coached by Schotty and run by one of the worst starting qb's in the NFL, will improve over the next 6 weeks, win out, and make the playoffs. But, Rex doesn't get that, and will not fire him.
I don't understand how the Schotty apologists cannot see the last 2 games for what they are. You know who hires a bunch of people over a 6 year period, says they aren't producing and continues to replace them? Our offensive coordinator. The reason our running game can't get going is the same reason Sanchez is all over the place. Our offensive line is in shambles (yeah I'm looking at you Wayne "swiss-cheese" Hunter). They're not creating gaps for the run, and they're not providing pocket protection for Sanchez. Seriously, have you been watching football this season? He's getting murdered, it's amazing he hasn't had a season ending injury by now. The responsibility of developing the offensive line (qb included) falls squarely on the shoulders of the offensive coordinator. Shit doesn't flow downhill gentlemen, it flows uphill. As commented previous in the thread, QBs under Schotty have gone on to produce under different OCs. You say Sanchez is inaccurate and throws too quickly? How many times does Schotty have to call a slant play before he recognizes that Sanchez is awful at 0-10 yard completions. His completions are best between 12 and 22 yards when the receivers open up, yet we continue to fail to make necessary adjustments. Defensive was standing on their head to make opportunities for our offensive unit. For the love of god I think they're still outscoring offensive in the last 5 games! I'm not saying Sanchez isn't the problem, I'd like to take a wait and see approach. Schotty has had 6 seasons to perform, and I can't imagine any player in this league being given the same opportunity. If Tannenbaum and Rex aren't willing to make to make the necessary adjustments then they're just accepting mediocrity. Get rid of "it's third and 25 time to run the ball" Schotty.
The guy has been here for 6 years now. He is friends with the GM and has the ear of the GM. Does this look like a mature O that was put together over a course of 6 years with a real plan in mind? Forget Sanchez for a moment, look at the line, the running backs the WR and TE. This team was put together with random parts not a plan.
13 seconds left to end second quarter, still a couple yards short of field goal range "its ok, just spike the ball and we have time for another play to get to fg range" schotty - "SCREW THAT LET'S SURPRISE SCREEN THOSE FAGS" 3rd and long on our own 6 yard line "its alright, mark has completed passes in similar situations" Schotty - "WE LOST OUR 2 BEST RUNNING BACKS, LETS RUN THE SHIT OUT OF THEM"
he's not going anywhere until season end. and then we wont replace him with a big name guy like some of you guys want.
I feel the same way. I dont care how loud the cry for Schitty's head is, there is no way that he gets the boot.
You can't fire the entire offense but you can fire the OC. The offense is struggling and has been for a while now....fire Scotty and get some new blood in there! Do it now while they still have a chance for the playoffs! And if Tanny refuses shit can him too! His choices have been suspect lately too!
Exactly. This season is exposing them. Rex needs to get a grip and get control of his team. Herm would have canned Schotty a long time ago.
On this note, i've gone to Facebook with the Fire Schotty stuff and created a group for us all to bitch about him! its open to join just search for Fire Brian Schottenheimer.
Sanchez threw ONE long pass in the game last night to Plax who wound up getting a long PI call out of it. After that they didn't try to stretch the field ONCE for the rest of the game - that's just inexcusable. If it works once... don't try it again? WTF? Yes, Sanchez played very poorly and yes, our Oline (particularly Hunter) takes a huge piece of the blame for not giving him any time on a lot of plays, but the OC has to at least make some attempt to have the ball thrown down field more than one time in the entire game. He has 3 or 4 guys running dinky little routes on every play (as many have pointed out they're often right next to each other) and never sets up an opportunity to go deep. It's bullshit. He doesn't need to make the Jets into a pass-first offense, but you have to at least give the defense some vague hint that you might try throw deep, otherwise they can just stack everyone at the line, play the WRs close and have a field day, which they did. There's plenty of blame to go around, but the OC is responsible for designing an offense that compliments the players he has on the roster and Schotty has shown time and again that he has no idea how to do that. Fire this bastard already!! Oh, and lastly, I'm definitely starting to question my faith in Rex for allowing this bullshit to continue. How the hell can he stand to watch this shit go on?
Siri (iPhone 4s) is probably a better playcaller than Schotty. And for the record, if you fire Schotty mid-season, you are folding the season up, plain and simple.
The Ravens fired Jim Fassell after week 6 of the 2006 season with a 4-2 record because the offense was holding the team back. They finished 13-3 that year. They won 5 straight after the firing and didn't score less than 24 pts in any game in that span after being held to 21 or less in 4 straight games leading up to the firing.
Will he get the boot? Probably not. Should he get the boot? Oh hell yeah! Cmon Rex & Mr. T, it's time to do what it takes. Sanchez needs a real OC to move forward. Last nights loss was Sanchez, and the defenses inability to stop the man that everyone knew was going to carry the ball. Please, p;ease, please, take out the trash.
Does shotty have secrets on Rex and Woody, that would explain why he is still here. Only a moron would keep shotty for this long.
Schotty is a joke. But let's face it, this team has been exposed. There's just not enough talent all-around. Except for Revis, the defense is slow and undisciplined. We don't have a single DL or LB with legit pass-rushing ability. I blame Tannenbaum most. Garret McIntyre? Not seeking a replacement for Damien Woody? (Wayne Hunter has got to be the weakest 6' 5" man in the world.) And all the wasted draft picks. Mike Nugent in the 2nd. Scotty McKnight? Some guy on here was mocking me earlier in the season for calling Bilal Powell in the 4th a waste. The list goes on and on... Even a team like the Raiders has done such a better job than us, it's a joke: Jared Veldheer, Denarius Moore, Taiwan Jones, Lamarr Houston, Rolando McClain, Jacoby Ford, Stefan Wisniewski.
