I honestly think if he's sitting idle for long he's going to do something seriously stupid.

    Not serious offenses???

The idiot was driving 143 MPH, fleeing from the police, running red lights, high on drugs, loaded gun under his seat and endangering a child.

140 mph is pretty serious. If he'd hurt somebody, or had a long list of priors, I could see him doing some time.

Why do I get the feeling that if you and I did the same deed in Mizzou we would be tasered and charged up the kazoo.??!
So the cops and prosecutor go easy on him cause he plays in NFL? I am a fan, but this is hardly great reasoning.

Looks like another referral for Geno and Marshalls psychiatrist.

Maybe he can check if our balls are inflated properly or be an extra cheerleader.

Yes, Bowles should punish him by making him a green and white tou tou lol

That 12 year old's mother should personally kick his ass from Missouri to New York.
Did mention get made of the relationship between Richardson and the kid? Nephew, perhaps?

8 games for a speeding ticket? WTF. Im thinking they did blood work at the barracks for drugs. Results to be released.

Yeah but he just has to drive the Bentley, not the Flintstones car! ;)

No indication whether he was taken into custody or not that evening based upon the reports I read. Not sure what the threshold is in their jurisdiction, but I am not sure based upon the evidence that they would be able to obtain a warrant for a blood test absent an admission by Richardson and/or actual pot in the car.

Since this is only a speeding ticket & resisting arrest (not minimizing the situation, just stating what he was charged with), I am not sure what the NFL can do with this. The resisting arrest charge will likely get tossed as the old "pulling the car into the driveway and turning off the lights" routine is not akin to physically resisting an arrest. That is a throwaway charge for the DA to get him to agree on the speeding charge. The NFL will be hard pressed to give him more than an extra game or two max when you have wife beaters, cheaters and child abusers only getting 4 games, etc.

As for why Richardson did not tell anyone of the arrest, well that is obvious. He was smoking dope that night and if the NFL or the team heard about the arrest he would have been immediately tested under the terms of the substance abuse policy/repeat offender policy. My guess is that he and his attorney were hoping that he was not getting randomly tested these past two weeks so that Sheldon could spend some time drinking some green tea to purge his system. Usually the hair sample test will show up for 30 days but since the NFL only uses urinalysis he probably has a 50-50 shot of diluting enough over the past 2 weeks to get below the NFL's test threshold.

As for the Jets, I personally would pre-empt the NFL and suspend him for an additional two games and get him into a rehab program now.

Courts may take it easy on him but I think the league will come down hard which even if they only tack on 4 games to his current suspension that would be about $330,000 on top of the previous $330,000 he is losing.

In all reality, he was driving high, racing over 140mph, child endangerment, evading the police, and when the cop approached him, he reached under his seat PROBABLY for his loaded gun.

That would be jail time if it were any of us. But because he's an NFL player, he'll get probation. Given he already has a four game suspension, I'd lengthen it to the full season.

You are totally confusing the Missouri legal system & the personal conduct policy of the NFL as enforced by a man named Goodell. You & others also seem to be disregarding the carrying a loaded gun charge that he will also be charged with:mad:

No, I was just as surprised as you were by what that other poster said. Seems to me like getting pulled over with a loaded gun, the smell of burnt marijuana, and a 12 year old child in the back seat is pretty serious, lol. It was wishful thinking on my part that maybe, just maybe, what he said was true and Sheldon won't get any additional suspension.

But I agree with you, I can't see how he avoids at least another 4 games, and probably the rest of the season. Or next season if they manage to put off the legal proceedings until after the season. And of course there's the "giant elephant in the room" Goodell to deal with, and he might choose to take action before the legals are fully worked out.

I will speculate that the gun charge will be the hardest thing to overcome since the vehicle was his so he had to bring the gun to the car. I sincerely doubt that a alibi of " my friend put the gun there without telling me" will not fly IMHO

Yeah, he's pretty much screwed no matter how you slice it. Just more bad luck for this franchise...hopefully Big Cat Williams lives up to the hype pretty quickly.

There's nothing anybody can do about that. If he's going to self-destruct he's going to self-destruct.

The only way the Jets or his agents could prevent that would be to send him to Antarctica for the length of his suspension to push around crates in a sub-zero warehouse.

    Not a bad idea actually.

There's no gun charge. The prosecutor has gone out of his way to say that the gun was legally owned and was not misused in the incident. Unless he crossed state lines in the pursuit the MO prosecutor has already let him off the hook for that one.

I wonder how many gun supporters had a little shiver run down their spine when the reality of a 24 year old black man with a legally owned gun who was willing to break the law in other ways crossed their viewscreen?

Don't worry. He'll be on fox sports talking about how much he's changed while feeding the homeless during the Thanksgiving special.

I actually think the police showed amazing restraint. When Richardson reached down under the seat, they could have opened fire or taken a much more aggressive and hostile approach than they did. I don't know if they were white, black or mixed, but I hope that will help to ease some of the tensions between policemen and black communities.

If that's the case, then he doesn't belong in the NFL anyways, and maybe not even on the streets with innocent civilians. I don't think he's that bad, however. At least I hope that he isn't for his sake, as well as that of the Jets.
