We know what doesn't work.. That's a single back formation HB dive with Ivory.. So far this year we're 0-32 converting with that play. Maybe on the 40th try we'll see if something else works.
Let's face it we are a better passing team than running team. If we can't get the short yardage with a QB sneak. I think we are better off putting the ball in Fitz's hands and letting him get the ball to Decker, Marshall, Or Powell. That said. It seemed like Dallas D-line was just a bad matchup for us. We couldn't handle their speed well. Based on the matchup we should run the ball in short yardage situations better against other teams.
It would probably help if half of the o line wasn't getting blown off the ball and/or we had a TE/FB/whatever that could block for shit. It's nuts that if you take all of our offensive personnel, outside of offensive linemen, and rate them on blocking ability you'd have Enunwa at the top of the list. We have 2 TE that can't block a FB that can't block and backup linemen that can't block. It's a wonder the have any running game at all considering it's almost always the exact same running play.
The funny thing is that he's almost always open when he does. I'm guessing because the TE is never used for jack in the Chan offense. It's really too bad both of TE's on the roster absolutely stink at catching the ball.
I understand where you're coming from, but if they're not getting the job done, then imo they have no room to complain. As long as Sheldon scored or picked up the first down, they should have been happy. I don't think Bohannon belongs on an NFL roster. He isn't going to get the job done. Ivory up the middle isn't getting the job done. Maybe with a better RG, it would, but we don't have that better RG, so Gailey needs to come up with a better solution, like using Sheldon, or running QB sneaks, or sending Ivory or Powell wide.
Hopefully, Gailey knows this, knows that the opposition will be looking for it, and if the Jets make the playoffs and the they run into a 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1, the opposing team will look for it and expect it, and Gailey will do something different and cross them up.
yup I know, but we've all seen a player like Ivory carry the ball 4-5 times on a drive, getting to the 1 yrd line, then someone else gets the TD. Has to piss him off!
If they stack the box for an Ivory run, then either throw a fade or a slant to Marshall, both of which are unguardable when he's one on one. The Ivory-up-the-gut play call on crucial short yardage plays needs to go. If not Marshall or Decker then I would trust a screen to Powell to get the job done. He's been very elusive and almost always is able to get a good gain in space.
Probably does, but the important thing is that we score. If we don't have the OL to open a hole for him, or if he can't jump over the lines or run it wide and score, then he shouldn't complain or be pissed off.
Probably because no one expects it since TEs are an afterthought in Chan's offense, and Davis is primarily a blocker. If it worked, it would be a great play. The problem is, of course, that it hasn't worked yet.
I like the slant idea. The screen maybe a bit too long in setting up. But we have to stop trying to pound Ivory between the tackles. It is epic fail. _
Not necessarily. Sheldon could be used to block for Ivory. I doubt that any DB, and probably few LBs would try to take Sheldon on as a blocking back for Ivory. Even if they did, more than likely they wouldn't be successful, especially if it wasn't straight up the gut and Ivory got the ball closer to the LOS than 5 yards back.
When they're expecting Ivory up the middle at the goal line, you do this: One of my favorite Sanchez moments...
I didn't know there was such a thing. Seriously, that was a great play call and a great fake. That's the kind of thing we need now.
