I need to stop all you "we'll find a RB in the draft" people. That's a load of bull and everyone knows it. RB is no different than any other skill position. There are far more misses than hits and just having a "warm body" doesn't cut it. I know the offense is shitty so it's easy to overlook the fact that, unlike a LOT of teams in the league, we have a homerun hitter at RB. There are a number of teams that wish they had a guy, like Hall, who they could count on, in a normal offensive scheme, to pop one or two a game. And I mean 20+ yard runs. If this "find a RB in the lower rounds" always worked there would be one, or two, on every team and the position would be relegated to "kicker" status. A complete back is hard to find. A good one, anyway. I'm also in the camp of we have soooo many holes on this team, why would you waste a pick on a RB when you can re-sign the guy we have and have not quite elite but really very good for around $15 mill. Seriously, it's not like we have a QB to pay or anything. As well, I am simply sick and fucking tired of this team finding good players and then dealing them because we blow ass all the time and there always seems to be "greener grass" when there almost never is. Pay the man. Again, with the caveat that he needs to "play ball" so to speak. Not going to pay good money for a whiner and complainer.
No dude. Good players are drafted all the time at a variety of positions including running back. It might be the easiest relevant position to find a good player past the first round. We’re going to discuss it. Not sure why you feel the need to make these posts constantly and aggressively trying to shut down conversations about drafting X, Y or Z. First it was QB, now it’s running back. We have 8,000 draft picks. This is the direction of the team, to rebuild the roster over two years through the draft so we’re going to discuss different ways to do that.
Breece can be part of the solution here. Keep the man and let’s load up at other spots although Jeremyah Love does look pretty awesome haha
I'm not trying to shut down anything. These wholesale topics on throwing away players on this team because their position is supposedly "easy to draft" is crap. As I stated, if it were so easy then every team would have a Henry, Barkley, Hall or McCaffrey. Not only that, the draft is a "touchy" subject in it's entirety, when talking about the Jets, because HISTORICALLY, they've been utter dogshit at it when it comes to offensive players. That part isn't up for debate because the history is finite. Outside of Hall and one or two others, you tell me who the Jets have drafted, in the last 30 years, at RB that makes you think it's all that easy? I mean, damn... This team, in VERY SHORT ORDER, will be sitting at 20 years without a playoff appearance. It's getting OLD!!! There are holes galore on this team, RB isn't one of them. Why make it so? Is all I'm sayin' in the end.
Sorry, I presented my rebuttal like an ass. I get your viewpoint, but in large part I don’t think Breece is anywhere near the category of players that you just rattled off. He’s a good back for sure but he’s overrated especially around here. With that being said, I agree that they should keep him as it only makes sense. I also see the other side in the Panthers and Cowboys got monster years out of minimal investment free agent running backs so it’s not like it’s hard to fill. And teams get good years out of drafted backs all the times.
May be is too simplistic of an approach, but IMO when you have a young team with a lot of needs, and you are arguably quite strong in some areas, as in the case of RB, stop chasing rainbows and thinking we can find suitable replacements at bargain prices for what in my view a top ten RB with superior catching skills. You make it sound as if those guys grow on trees. Oh yeh, when was the last time we had one that good? Stop that please, we need a stud or two LBs, Safety and CB, not to mention another no kidding pass rusher on D alone. And OMG have we forgotten our dire need for a no kidding NFL QB that in an of itself will make the running game far less predictable and far more effective. So stop trying to fix what is not broken, in fact is a strength. If the contract is not unreasonable extend him now, give him a respectful and fair offer. Then focus on all the other areas that truly need major help. My two cents.
Look around the league right now, how many teams with a rookie QB on the horizon also have a legitimate Top-5 running back who is only 24 years old? The answer is basically zero. Having Breece in 2026 when a rookie is most likely taking snaps is one of the biggest luxury blankets a young quarterback can ask for. Hand the ball off 20-25 times a game, dump it to him in the flat on 3rd down, watch him turn check-downs into 12-yard gains and screens into 60-yard touchdowns. That’s not just “helpful.” That’s a get-out-of-jail-free card for a kid who’s going to make rookie mistakes. People want to talk about the running back market and dead money, cool. The Jets are projected to have north of $90 million in space next offseason. Paying Breece $11-12 million a year, which is what the second tier of backs is getting right now (Kamara, Jacobs, Cook, Kyren), is not breaking the bank. Breece is 24. Twenty four. He’s entering the prime of his career, not exiting it. His explosiveness, vision, and receiving ability are all elite and still ascending. Pay the man. Extend Breece Hall. Keep one of the few true homegrown stars we’ve developed in a decade.
I'll tell you, that's one of the few things I'm noticing. A ton of these players, in the last 10 years or so, are coming into the league YOUNG! Almost feels like they didn't go to college. Think on that a second. Hall is finishing up his 4th year in the league and he's ONLY 24! He was drafted at the grand ole' age of 20. Same thing when I hear guys scoff at these QB's coming into the league at 24 or 25 and calling them old. No, they're not old, they just stayed in school. lol! Marino, Elway, Montana all 22 or older. I guess we've gotten so used to many of these kids coming out early that when we hear 23, 24, 25...we start worrying if they'll be too old too soon! Crazy insane.
Pay Breece and look for a late round guy to compete with Braelon and Isaiah. Keep trying to improve the backups until the backups are better than the starter.
I'd bring back the entire RB room and draft someone late to compete for the last spot. Breece has hit another level the last month or so and it really does feel like he's going to be here next year. Allen has a ton of potential especially if we start using RBs in the pass game more (I have reason to believe we weren't because Fields can't throw any type of pass). Davis has been more than solid as a third down guy but obviously you'd like the bigger body in Allen out there. Either way those are 3 quality RBs with one of them having star potential when he feels like having it.
Agreed…I’d really like to keep Breece…may not be cheap but holy crap, shocker of shocker but good/great players are not cheap. The RB room looks MUCH better with him in it….if we let him go, I just don’t think the combo of Allen/Davis is as explosive. Allen is going to have to start delivering on that potential, but until he starts dealing out punishment and making those 3rd and 1 yard conversions, I’ll still refer to him as potential…he has the ability, but has to show it consistently on the field. I like Davis a lot, actually, but I’m not sure he’s a true RB1 starter… I’d really love to keep all three and then find an undrafted free agent type for RB4…that’s one area where we’ve seemed to be able to find pretty good backs like Bam Knight was, or the Michigan kid in camp this year (can’t recall his name)… Not sure we need to draft a guy here unless you let Breece go, but we have so many holes that I hate to keep making more… Do the smart thing…keep Breece and use that pick you don’t need to make on a RB on Day 2 for an edge or a WR or a S
Breece's stat are up because we have much better run blocking this season. A stud DT (really 2) is a massive need of were ever going to be a playoff team.
We need a stud DT and stud DE if we keep playing the 4-3. We also need help at Safety, and of course QB. The rest of the positions need some help, but are not as dire. I think once G. Wilson comes back, our WR need is not as critical as before w the 2 guys acquired via trade. CB even looks better now even w trade of Sauce. Not saying we couldn't improve all positions, but those 4 (QB, DE, DT, and S) IMO should take priority. And resign Hall.
I'm up and down on Breece Hall. He has talent. He can do a lot on the field, even pass. He's got the potential to turn any running play into a touchdown. But he fumbles and makes some silly mistakes at times. I don't think letting him walk is good for the team. He's the most versatile player we have on offense. In reality, RBs are cheap compared to other positions. Also, if you are trying to acclimate a new QB in the next year and change, you want guys like Breece & Garret Wilson out there. The o-line is already decent. The new QB could find himself in a "2009 Jets" type of situation if they play it right.
