No - they timed it perfectly - ride the horse shit "story" during the boring off season and then break the "news" that he isn't holding out just before the opening of training camp. People ate it right up. There was never any reports of the Revis camp asking for a new deal, just hot air based on a non-answer.
yup.a couple of reporters speculated revis would holdout based on his contract structure.revis' agents probably told him to be noncomittal to guage the jets position on a new deal.and thus started 2 months of "reporting" on will he or won't he.and they wrapped it up just in time to focus on the tebow saga for 6 weeks of camp/preseason. how conveniant
Revis holding out would not have been right for anyone - not even Revis. It would have been a selfish move that would have hurt the team and you and me and other fans. Any fan that blindly supports a player is an idiot. Revis has been incredibly well paid from the day he entered the league through next season. A hold out would have only signaled greed. If you can't see that, you are hopeless.
Any fan who blindly supports the front office is also an idiot. As for Revis, I thought it did not make much sense for him to hold out, and the only real place that was coming from was Cimini, who sucks, and a non-answer from Revis. On the other side it didn't make sense for him to, and he certainly was not saying he would hold out. I do think many here were over the top in their condemnation of Revis, more or less expecting he would hold out. Time for them to admit their mistakes and move on.
I don't know about that. Yes, there were definitely plenty of people on this forum who were obviously reacting to the possibility of another holdout, but all you have to do is go back and read the "Why yes, I would trade Revis" thread to see that after the holdout hype all of a sudden people were talking about how CB isn't an important enough position to pay a guy as much as Revis makes/wants and how he doesn't actually contribute that much to winning games, etc, etc. Condemning a possible holdout is one thing but it seemed to also trigger a whole lot of anti-Revis sentiment which had nothing to do with a holdout.
That is exactly the way it appeared to me as well. It was an obvious reaction to the fake "news" that Revis was going to hold out, a defense mechanism if you ever saw one. "Revis is going to hold out? Who needs him! Let's trade him for some average pass rusing LB! That's a MUCH more important position!" RIght.
Just a random blurb I found on yahoo sports interviewing Steve Johnson. Careful what you wish for Stevie.... "Even the NFL's undisputed top coverage man, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, has struggled to contain Johnson. While most receivers dread getting sent to Revis Island, Johnson says, "I love the Island. It's like a vacation spot for me."
