I said at the time let's wait and see if it was just about the team we were playing. Sadly, it was. The Bills have an AWFUL defense, as displayed yesterday giving up two 100+ rushers 'and' receivers. As it turned out, the preseason was every bit a real indicator of just how bad this offense is and the first week was the outlier.
I'm not ready to Kill Sparano yet. The offense looked good against Buffalo, and looked good to start the Steeler game before sputtering. Then we put up almost 400 yards of offense against a pretty good Dolphin defense ... and we moved the ball well enough to go ahead in the 4th and win in OT. It was nothing to get excited about, but the first 3 weeks the offense was adequate, and that's about all we can expect. We don't have Barry Sanders and Jerry Rice on this roster. Drives failed because of dropped passes and stupid penalties, but I thought Sparano's playcalling was ok. Yesterday was the only real offensive disaster in the first four games. Sanchez played like dogshit, and I don't think a receiver got open all game. I'm not going to overreact. I won't panic until I see what happens Monday night with keller and Hill in the lineup ... and hopefully a lot less of Greene, and a lot more of Powell.
Because our RB 's are slower down hill runner's. We have no speed back and we faced the last 2 weeks.PITT and SF which are two of the better run defenses in the league. We were getting third and shorts a lot during those games.Tell your son its sanchez who cannot complete a pass to save his life.Sanchez has the lowest comp % in the league.
Question: Did Sparano urge the FO to draft Sad Sack at QB? Question: Is Sparano Sad Sack's dad? No, so can't hold Sparano responsible for this offense.
This 4 game sample against varying degrees of opponents is not enough of a sample size to judge Sparano. Specially given the lack of talent available on offense with Keller hurt, then Hill, then Holmes and Sanchez being inaccurate. The breadth of playcalls and the pace of play are dramatically better. We take shots downfield, we run off tackle and we get the ball hiked with plenty of play clock. Things schotty couldnt do to save his life. The issues right now are flat out team/player execution. Yeah, I'd change a playcall here or there but not nearly as frustrating as Schotty. Also remember, the Niners have the best defense in football. We met a road grater yesterday, and the freaky turnovers definitely exacerbated the thumping.
At What Point Do We Blame Sprano?? Everyone's trying to blame either Rex,Tanny, or Sanchez for the misgivings of our offense. But where does Sparano fall in the middle of all of this???If Shotty was still the OC and we gave a performance like we did yesterday all of Jet Nation would be pointing the finger at Shotty. My point is Sparano deserves alot of blame as well, Im not impressed with what he's done so far not in the least bit. We put up over 40 on Buffalo, guess what we did that 2 or 3 times under Shotty as well. He has done a horrible job with Tebow so far,I just don't get why he isn't getting any of the blame for the offense, i mean we got shut out does it get any worse then that offensively? we shoulda convinced Tom Moore to come in, I never liked hiring Sparano from day 1. His offense's in Miami were never good , he's a losing football coach and I guarntee that if this season is a failure He will be the scapegoat just like Shotty and he will get the axe
Like I said last year, I didn't see Schotty as a great or even necessarily a good OC. But too many here complained that it was all on Schotty, that he was holding back the O and all that. I thought it was much more a roster problem. Now the Jets have changed out Schotty for Sparano, and the Offense is much worse. Two things are apparent. First of all the roster is a huge problem. There's just not much talent past Holmes and I guess still Mangold (who looked mediocre yesterday). The second is Sparano is probably not going to be an improvement over Schotty. He sure has not been so far.
The roster's also gotten a lot worse than it was under Schotty two and three years ago. Schotty had enough time here with actual decent rosters.
People are on the panic button because they percieve it to be three horrible performances in a row. I don't see it that way. I think the offense moved the ball pretty well against Miami. The problem was three trips inside the Red Zone only gave us 6 points ... Dropped TD by Hill from the 15, idiotic INT by Sanchez from the 7, and a false start by Slauson on 3rd and less than 1 at the goal line. None of these were Sparano issues. The Niner's defense kicked the snot out of us. But if we move the ball the way we did in the Dolphin game, we'll be fine most of the time.
If it isn't plainly obvious at this point I don't think there has ever been a Tebow package. I think this was another Rex idea of tricking all those other stupid coaches in the NFL. Harbaugh knew this and showed Rex how to mix in an option offense into your system. I think that was Jim saying "Hey Rex - is this the special package you are still sitting on?"
After Week 1's surprise (vs. a Shitty Bills Defense), the offense is averaging 8.6 ppg and only has 2 TDs in 3 games. Sparano sucks and was a terrible hire. The love fest on this board upon his hiring is looking pretty silly right now.
The love fest upon his hiring? I seem to remember most people hating the hire. It's too early to tell one way or another w/sparano as an OC.
I'm not ready to pass judgement on the OC after a 4 game sample size. Emotionally, I don't feel like I've been yelling at the TV as much at the playcalling as I did over the last few years. Of course, that's completely anecdotal.
I've said it many times, Tebow is most effective when he drops back then takes off running when the defense has a couple seconds to spread out. If Sparano knows this then why doesn't he do it?
People did say he HAS to be better than Schotty (which does look very silly right now) but I would not say there was all that much love for Sparano himself.
All these unproductive drafts have to catch up to us eventually guys... this might be the year. It's hard to understand the Tebow trade, replacing Richardson with Conner, the obvious drop off at RT with Woody retiring, a questionable left guard situation, an aging right guard situation, a drop off in tight end blocking and losing ladanian tomlinson without replacing him with equal or greater talent and having no legitimate #2 receiver. I mean is it not obvious how far we've fallen here? This offense is destined to stink this year boys... it's not going to get much better regardless of who we play.
