A few things. How big is Goddard and do they really love him????? Hodgins is a big time FULL BACK ThAT WILL HURT YOU. He will be ready next year. JMill needs to work on his tackling. That kid has too much talent not to develop. Also who are some good OC candidates I really believe Schotty is going to MIA. One more thing he is right about the FAs from last year. Are they still going to go after That guy from Balti?????? WHats the deal with that guy.
FS and SS are interchangeable for Mangini, you watch the game you see Kerry playing anywhere, both FS and SS (FS = Free Safety, SS = Strong Safety (meaning strong side of the formation)
I like Eric Smith, although I think we're throwing Erik Coleman under the bus. He's always been an excellent tackler, and a good blitzer when given the chance. The only problem with him, is that he's sometimes late in coverage. Couldn't have asked more from a guy that was drafted in the fourth or fifth (I forgot). I would like to see Eric Smith out there though. He's a player. I'd like to see us use Stacy Tutt a lot more in run formations. The few times he played against Minnesota he made awesome blocks, including the one that opened the hole for Cedric Houston on his touchdown. He took 281 lbs. Kenechi Udeze and sealed him off completely, being only a 235 lbs. fullback.
Goddard is 6'5 315, i'm not sure how much they love him, cut Cimini apparently gives him a shot to start at RT, which is cool. The guy from Baltimore is Adalius Thomas. He'll be 30 next season, which sort of sways me away from him, but he knows the 3-4 and is very versatile, and i'm not sure how Briggs would fit in a 3-4.
Sleeper for RT next year: Blanton. kid is like 6-6, 330, and here is the tidbit: Mangini promoted him from the taxi squad to the active roster for the NE playoff game. OK, so he wasn't active, but he was promoted onto the roster. Mangini threw him a bone. obviously, Mangini was sending this kid a message. We like what you did this year. Keep it up. Overall, not a bad take, but people are being WAY to hard on Ferguson (and I was one of the people that said don't take him at 4). Anyone that knew squat KNEW that D'Brick was going to have trouble with the bull rush and run blocking. He's tough to beat with a speed rush, and can pull and block in space very well. That was the report on him from day one. Anyone who expected more simply has no clue. He played as expected. The question is, can he develop? His grade for Moore is way too high in comparison. News flash for Cimini: ANY RB would look like a JAG behind this O line. The unit simply isn't very good at run blocking, period.
so with two potential starting RT's in Goddard and Blanton, do we look more at G as an early (R2, R3) pick? Kendall is getting old very quickly and so his replacement needs to be in sight. i'm wondering if Brandon Moore can play LG and we draft a RG to start or at least to be groomed -- or is Brandon Moore strictly a RG? anyone have any thoughts on this? cheers
George Kokinis. Something about not being able to make a lateral move to another organization is what halted the move last season. I doubt the Jets get him.
Blanton was pulled onto the team to protect him. I don't recall BUT I think it was the Gaints that were about to sign him, and Mangini loves his hard work and drive. He is a Mangini man top to bottom, and there was no way Mangini was going to work with him all season just to let some other team grab him. As far as the article, it was EXCELLENT! I love the way Cimini summerized the team with one liners. It was like Dr Z meets reality (I love Dr Z). Three was some well placed humos in it as well. War the Penquin giving the Hoodie as wedgie.
I thought so early in the season until I heard starting lineups for one of the games and they announced Rhodes at FS and Strait at SS, I don't know when they made the switch but it was apparently when I wasn't paying attention.
id trust my own views over the commentators or announcers...Kerry is the strong safety... if Eric smith can make 2 ints in limited time this year, he deserves a shot at the FS starting job with Erik ( one game wonder/opening day rookie debut vs Bengals) Coleman...what has he done for us lately?
I said this a few times already but think it's worth repeating. Eric Smith is What McGraw was when he wasn't injured and then some. He is a TE Eliminator. McGraw was excellent in that role. Eric Smith looked good on plays that he was asked to shut down the Crossing route (Late in the Vikings game) and Covering the TE. My Fear is how he would handle a Cover 2 style role where he'd have to "Bracket" or give CB help over the top. Funny though, He looked mighty fine doing that vs the Fagfins. I'm sure Walker would agree....
Kerry has been the starting FS all season( its even in the deapth chart on newyorkjets.com) he was the SS under Herm. I like both Cloeman and Smith. Smith is bigger, stronger, and a better tackler. Coleman is better in deep coverage and playing the ball. I think they will both get a lot of playing time(50-50) and we will have a very good safety rotation.
