Don't be an ass - did you read the article? I'm not saying he's a great wr or that none of it is his fault. All I'm saying is cutting him and saying your happy with Nelson because he "produced" is being short sighted and then gave you reasons and examples why I thought so. Good thing you're still thinking about Sanchez though... Cause he's relevant. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Find one post in here when I said that I wanted to cut Hill. Go ahead find it. You're arguing a point I'm not even making. But since we're on the subject. If if came down to it I'd choose Nelson over Hill because he's the better player. Hill has the better physical tools. But he's useless if he doesn't know how to utilize his abilities to be a productive player.
Sorry, that was another poster I guess, on my phone during a meeting so only partially paying attention to either haha. If that's how you feel as well we can agree to disagree. I think it's being short sighted as I've stated.. Hills ceiling is 10x higher then Nelson's But really, Hopefully, we don't need either of them to play a significant role this year and if that's the case is much rather have Hill for a situational go deep guy with potential then just having a good possession WR to bring in for our spread sets in Nelson. IMO Hills biggest issues have been his own inexperience, terrible QB play and no other threats on the team to take pressure away from him. Hopefully that all changes soon.
I haven't seen any progress either, but he's cheap enough that I'd keep him around. He is still a threat to get open, and you have to cover that even if he doesn't have the natural football ability, or doesn't seem to. And Lal might suck to the Nth degree. Even if he's not coachable, I think he's a good #4 or #5 WR, so might as well keep him as our #4 or #5 rather than let someone else have him.
i feel bad for hill, sorta..everybody said before the draft he was a 2-3 year prospect to develop... of course we took him and since we had zero wr's...he was forced to play and combine that with two season ending seasons on IR. unforunetly for him if we take a WR in the first, def if its a outside wr.. hes screwed and well never know what we have him in because he simply wont play. plus our QB play never helped him. i know thomas from denver is a better prospect then hill was. but he didnt start get going till peyton manning got there,
People are hard on Hill because he was a guy that nobody really wanted from the start. Alshon Jeffrey was on the board at that point and the Jets passed up on him. Think about how this offense would look with him on the team instead of Hill. But Im willing to give him a chance. Still want a playmaker in the 1st round but Hill could challenge Nelson for the number 4 and try to work his way up from there. But he's going to have to have a David Clowney-like preseason...and even that might not save his roster spot. I do agree with the OP's thought though. You know Holmes wasnt helping him. And we didnt have that Coles/Cotchery influence there that could take him under their wing either. Does Decker become that guy? Who knows. Im just glad that since we ditched Holmes and Winslow there wont be any divas around this season.
Said this on another thread... Hill breaking out would make this offense amazing ! Two 6'4 WRs would give any defense hell. I dont see why Hill just cant be a decoy if anything . Decker & kerley would definitley get open any given play with their route running ability.
Yup forgot about him. Obviously those 2 teams have had better passing offenses/QB's over the last 2 seasons but ya never know what the Jets would look like right now if they went with one of those guys over Hill. Jeffrey at the very least looks like one of those guys that's gonna put up numbers no matter who is at QB. Helped earn McCown a pretty nice contract.
We gave Ducasse 4 years for no reason but we're going to cut Hill without letting him play out his contract even though it's one of our weakest positions on the team? The only way I see Hill getting cut is if his knees are shot and he can't get through TC. You don't give up on project players in year before their 3rd year.
If we had drafted Jeffery instead we'd be set at receiver. I'm not asking for Hill to be Jeffery (although I wouldn't complain if he did) I'm just asking for him to be an effective consistent contributor on our offense. Grab one or two 20+ yard bombs and just be a vertical threat. One of the few times he used his physical tools for good last year against NE the play was negated by a cheap penalty. Give us the occasional play like that and be a legit vertical threat in the passing game.
Great feedback from everyone! I hadn't really considered Nelson as even though he's only 4 yrs. in the league I almost get the "journeyman" feel from him. Definitely no more than a 4th or 5th guy. As someone alluded to earlier...the N.Y. Jets are probably the WORST team, outside of Jacksonville, to be drafted by if you are an offensive project. Hill's physical gifts should have him no worse than a 3rd or 4th receiver and being drafted in the 2nd round really makes it out to be him growing into a solid #2. Obviously the biggest jumps for guys at the WR position are in year's 3 or 4. But, he hasn't had the average amount of tutelage from what I can tell...hence my comments about Holmes not helping and S. Lal being a useless turd. Does that retard his progression to being a breakout threat in year 4 or 5....? Can we afford to keep him around that long without being super productive? Can we afford to keep a guy around that who's role is strictly a decoy with the occasional ball being tossed his way? This year...maybe. Next, I doubt it. My big wonder, in starting this thread, was if anyone knew more than I do about Decker and if he "seems" to be a take under the wing kind of guy...AND, if anyone thought Hill had the capacity to be more than he is. It's really easy to say Hill has this fantastic ceiling...if you really believe that he does AND we have the pieces in place to make that happen. I mean...where is our Henry Ellard as a WR coach...Sanjay Lal....what a joke!
I'd have believed that story if I had seen the production on the field. I'd also have more inclination to believe that if we hadn't heard of Holmes being a terrible mentor/teammate.
So they made up Holmes mentoring Hill? And because Hill wasn't good that makes Holmes a bad mentor? Interesting. So was Revis a bad mentor during Wilson's first 2 seasons? Finally please get over that end of 2011 mess. Outside of that Holmes has been a fine teammate.
