We’ll start to get more data on this over the next ten years as coaches continue to get recycled/new head coaches start their first jobs. The modern day NFL is a different game in terms of the business side of it. A couple to add though - Mike Holmgren, Tony Dungy, Mike Shanahan, Dick Vermeil, Marty Schottenheimer, etc. I don’t think there’s any doubt that Sean Payton joins that list after he becomes the Cowboys coach next year. People are also starting to live much longer and live better lives into older ages. So coaches will be able to coach longer if they want to and it will alter data. They’re also starting younger.
My two cents about Coaches and teams. No matter the stats, the logic, the history, the negativity, the over the rainbow positivity, the strength of schedule, the injuries, the average NFL contract for new CS, the rookie contracts, no matter the exceptions or the rules, no matter what the new environment is. It all means very little if nothing at all. The only catalyst to effectively change an organization is winning. Period end of story. Until we achieve that we will be re living history. It’s time for this franchise to find its winning ways. If we do, we don’t have to worry about any of this other stuff. Let some one else do that fo a change.
