I don't doubt that's its blood, and obviously when the injury was dressed in the ALCS they didn't anticipate the sutures opening or whatever, but why the hell did the same thing happen DAYS later in the WS? Hasn't Schill ever heard of a band-aid? Even at the time it struck me as odd, that he was deliberately not addressing the open wound to martyr himself and look like a hero. Not taking anything away from his actual performance, of course, for which (in the ALCS) I am eternally grateful. I just think it would have stood out on its on w/o the blood theatrics.
I think the blood oozed thru the dressing. And being in the middle of a game, I don't think you want to take your spike off and try to re-dress it. Once you take the spike off, you don't know what you are dealing with.
"If you have ... the guts, grab an orthopedic surgeon, have them suture your ankle skin down to the tissue covering the bone in your ankle joint, then walk around for 4 hours," Schilling wrote on his Web site www.38pitches.com. "After that go find a mound, throw a hundred or so pitches, run over, cover first a few times. When you're done check that ankle and see if it bleeds." Hey junc, care to try it?
This thread is now an all-time classic. Junc now falls into the Raider Joe catagory for me. Sorry Junc, the mighty have fallen IMHO. I really thought you were joking around. :breakdance:
Do you have proof it was blood? That didn't look like blood on his sock. The guy gutted through some pain, I commend him. I don't think it was real blood from his ankle. I think he was being dramtic and/or trying to inspire his teammates. I suspect someday we'll find out the truth and when that day comes when Schilling writes a book 10-15 years from now remember me and what I said then apologize and I'll hear it.
If anyone reads our post obviously my posts make alot more sense than yours. On this thread I could see why people would question me but it's just a feeling I have had since the game took place. I really don't care if I am right or wrong on this one but I think I'm right, the bottom line is the guy gutted out a great game and is maybe the best big game pitcher of his generation. Whether he painted it on, it was real blood or it was ketchup doesn't really matter. It's a goofy story I am having fun w/ but some folks are taking it way too seriously.
 Good one junc!!! Oh...wait...you were serious? hmy: Ummm, no offense bro, but that offender would be you...
Any sane fan would realize Joe Torre is not responsible for every loss and would realize ARod has contributed nothing the last 2 postseason but you defend Alex and bash Joe so it's obvious my posts make more sense than your posts. Where am I taking this sock thing seriously? I have said nothing but nice things about Curt as a pitcher, all I said was I never believed it was blood and I still do not believe it was blood. Whether I am right or wrong who cares? he still beat us and that's all that matters or was it Joe's fault that Schiling pitched great that night and beat us?
