2013 and 2012 weren't so hot either. It's been three years since the Jets last entered December with a winning record. 2012 Jets 11 games in: 4-7 2013 Jets 11 games in: 5-6 2014 Jets 11 games in: 2-9 2015 Jets 11 games in: 6-5
well I feel sorry for you. You've already put us down for a loss tomorrow against the Giants because they have OBJ (no running game, no pass rush, but hey, they have a good WR so no way Jets can win). Actually I feel more sorry for your wife......
Hate to rain on your unicorn parade, but I completely disagree. Whatever improvement you see from the Jets this year is fool's gold. First of all, it is mostly the result of the historically weak schedule we've had this year, as opposed to the brutal schedule we had last year. Let me remind you that we have not beaten a SINGLE team this year with a record over .500. In fact, other than the NE game, we haven't even faced a team with a good record, and yet we somehow still managed to lose almost half of those. Maybe you forgot that 2 years ago, in 2013, we went 8-8 with another weak schedule (although not as weak as this year). So in 2 years we are still in the same place AFTER spending all that money and having those high picks as a completely broken down cap depleted team that was left in Tanenbaum's wake. Secondly, and even more importantly, this team is fool's gold because pretty much its entire core will be gone in 2-3 years. Revis, Cromartie, Fitzpatrick, Harris, Mangold, Brick, Marshall, Colon, Pace will be gone due to age/declining performance, and probably at least 2 D-Line players will be gone due to money. We have some young quality players, but they represent a very small part of the team because the current front office chose to go with old veterans in the offseason for the most part, so there will be a lot of holes to fill soon.
You like suffering? Knock yourself out. Feel free to be miserable. The rest of us prefer to enjoy whatever progress we may make. Do us all a favor and over the next 3 years of suffering by your calendar, try to keep it down to a mild whine. God forbid this team does anything right for once.
Rome was not built in a day and neither will the Jets. This is year ONE of the new Regime. For a couple of rookies, I think TB and Macc have done quite well.
I'm stoked we're still relevant into December and that we've been competitive in almost every game. It would of been nice to get one over the Pats, Rex and maybe the Giants but we still have that opportunity in front of us to spoil their seasons. The only concern I have that is slowly nagging at me is that next year we have to go up against the Pats x2 (as usual), Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, Cardinals and Seahawks i.e a much tougher schedule and we still have quite a few holes on the roster that we're probably not going to be able to fill over one summer afterwhich we start to lose a lot of our current core veterans. But...........who cares lets just crush them Giants.
Many of the teams we played under .500 got that way because we BEAT them. And as far as roster turn over in 2-3 years, welcome to the NFL. Where ya been the last 20 yrs?
one of the things that really makes me happy is that there really aren't any guys on this team that I absolutely despise. cromartie is probably right there on the cusp but he is not one of those guys. this is a team I feel completely comfortable rooting for. the mark sanchez, tim tebows, santonio holmes, Vernon gholstons, kyle wilsons, and all the guys that were useless/assholes and just generally unlikeable are gone.
It's been very satisfying to wake up every sunday and watch a team that isn't a complete joke. However , when I remove my green shades and think about the big picture , the main reason for success this year (kinda sad when 1 game over .500 is considered a success) is because we're facing the 2 worst divisions in football this year. Plug this years team into last years schedule and I doubt they fair any better. That being said I'm no darksider by any means. I love this team and never watch a game beleiveing they are going to lose. Just saying that the team has underachieved this year.
Mac has done a good job, TB on the other hand has not, he cost the team a victory by going for it twice on 4th downs when he should have gone for FG, his propensity to stick with veterans on defense, instead of playing the younger playmakers has been a point of contention with me. His management of the 2 minute portion in some games has been disastrous, he cut a better option as a back up on the oline(Aboushi) because he wanted to send a message. He justifies keeping Winters and I know he has to, because there is no one else, but he hurt the depth of the oline with that move. I'm hoping that in the 12th week of the schedule he has grown and stops chasing points and stops going for it on 4th down when he does not have to, and just let the game develope.
You're using hindsight. Looking back, one can say yes, we lost winnable games. I understand disappointment that we didn't, but to get down on the CS is ridiculous imo. Before the season started, did you really expect the team would be 7-4 or better at this point? If so, then yes, I think you were being completely unrealistic considering the fact that we had new systems, a new CS, a JAG or Geno at QB, huge question marks about the OL, glacially slow LBs (except Davis, and he can't tackle or cover), and a bunch of new players who had never played together or established any sense of chemistry. Rarely do things go perfectly and all the pieces fall in place. Of course one can hope for that to happen, but to expect it is just plain silly and setting one's self up for disappointment and frustration.
Anything short of a Superbowl victory is a failure. Yes, the Jets have improved but are we that horrible of a franchise where we celebrate going 8-8?
I'm sure even the great Parcells f'd up early in his career. Look at the Bengals today and think back to when Marvin Lewis first started. Time will tell but you have to allow things to develop.
Must have been a really awful 47 years for you. You have my condolences. To answer your question, yes, we celebrate going 8-8 after 4-12. When we become elite, we can think big but thinking this team is anything other than a work in progress is being delusional.
This team is only 6-5 because of shit coaching. With the talent it has and the super weak schedule they should be at minimum 8-3. But continue to enjoy mediocrity that should be something better.
