Good news for us is looking at CAR’s schedule down the stretch, I’m not sure where I see a win. That 2nd rounder may end up being a really good one.
Imagine how good our OL would look if we would've just went with Fant at LT and Wirfs at RT. Oh well, I still have high hopes for Becton. Just hoping he rebounds from this injury and stays on the field next season.
I’d like to make an educated guess on who ends up where but the NFL never makes sense down the stretch. The Lions just beat the Vikings on a play where it looks like they gave up. Texans beat the Titans with ease a week ago. None of it makes sense.
Well JV, you and I both know the impact of Betting (legal or illegal) on games. Not so sure about the integrity of any sports league anymore. Real Madrid lost to a no name team at home in Champions League. That is a bigger miracle than Miracle on Ice.
My thoughts exactly. Best case, they finish 7-10, but most likely they'll finish 5-12 or 6-11 which would put that 2nd rounder somewhere in the first 5-10 picks.
Is it a surprise that officiating seems to be getting worse by the year, coinciding with the rise of legal sports betting?
There is nothing guaranteed any given week, but you can probably extrapolate some of these teams based on the first 13 weeks to some degree. It’s nice to see that the Jets own a 1st, 2nd, and two 4ths all of teams currently slated as bottom 10 teams though.
The NFL could use an Office of Professional Responsibility. Put a czar who is not the Commissioner in charge and let them straighten out discipline against everybody. The Commissioner then becomes a check on that authority excepting cases where the Commish has to recuse because of an interest. Job one this year would be to straighten out the Covid mess. Job two for the next couple of seasons would be installing professional officials and the system that keeps an eye on them in the legal gambling context. This is long overdue and it is particularly important due to the Commissioner essentially becoming an economic guide for the sport over the last three decades. Can't do that job and also regulate effectively without the fans booing the crap out of you at every opportunity.
The NFL is making a big mistake jumping on the gambling bandwagon. They have created a scenario in the coming years where millions & million of dollars will be staked on single games/plays with part time officials deciding outcomes. They will lose the trust of the public. The NFL gained its popularity because the sport was seemingly tailor made for the rise of television. But it is the opposite with gambling, it is not made for it. The sport has too many rules, too many subjective rules, and a referee's call has too much impact. great article about this in epsilon theory website: https://www.epsilontheory.com/the-nfl-has-a-gambling-problem/ -- I don't think the league's brass has fully prepared itself for the future, they are just happy for the short term money grab from the bookie advertisements. In 1919 baseball was nearly destroyed because they weren't prepared for gambling impact, since then the league has taken it overly serious. And baseball is a game less affected by referees. With a lot less money being staked A devastating "1919 Black Sox" like scandal is looming in the future for the NFL I fear...
Featured games, Prime Time games, and Playoff games will need to be kept safe to keep the public at bay, and probably successful big market teams. If only the bottom feeder teams like the Jaguars and Jets who never see prime time take the punishment, it will continue. But I agree, there is a real risk of damaging the NFL brand after diving into this. All it takes is one scandal to really mess things up.
I was talking about this on Sunday. Way too many subjective calls in the NFL. The rules committee or whoever the hell is in charge needs to figure this nonsense out. Between catch vs drop, pass interference, and officials seemingly missing defensive linemen in full nelsons, it's getting ridiculous. It's starting to feel like penalties only exist to benefit whoever the NFL wants to win.
The Saints have been a mess since Winston went down. We might just get two more wins. Seahawks just beat the niners, they could win as many as four more games. Panthers have two easy games left on their schedule.
Seahawks beat the 49ers and Wilson looked better, but Garoppolo lost them that game. I think the Seahawks are still not that good. Rams and Cardinals are probably losses, and Texans are a likely win. Lions and Bears are where they have a shot. I see their remaining schedule as anywhere from 1-4 to 4-1. Panthers have no answer at QB and just fired their OC halfway through the bye… they don’t look good on offense and McCaffrey is done for the year. I see them as going between 0-5 to 2-3. Vikings… could be 0-5 to 4-1. The Jets I see as being anywhere from 1-4 to 3-2. I just don’t see them losing to the Jaguars right now.
I can see the Jets finishing 5-12…but if the Giants and Bears win another game or two the Jets position wouldn’t likely change. They’re probably looking at #4 or #5 with their own pick.
