was it a grey mouse or white white and brown one? and did tanny get a hybrid or a gas guzzler? does it have side impact air bags? inquiring minds want to know.
Seriously, if the guy started all 13 games at RT last year and helped pave the way for McFadden and Jones to each have 1,000-yard seasons (total of over 2,000 yards on the ground between them), you can't help but think he was a great find in the 7th Round and therefore a good signing. Tanny will get the rest done... he always does. Even the Revis thing last year, as painful as it was at the time, really had no additional negative effect on the season. We self-destructed in many other areas and the Revis holdout was inconsequential to our 4-12 year.
Dear Bosko, I think the sooner Tannenbaum gets the rooks signed the better they'll be able to contribute. The top picks' money must be decided by those before and after them. There's been some progress in that at the top of the draft already. But Tannenbaum has apparently signed the NYJ's last rounder sooner in the year than he did so last year. This bodes well for "all the rooks into TC". Another point is, as the rooks begin to sign with Tannenbaum, there is more subtle pressure on those unsigned to "get-er done" so that they can contribute (and maybe actually have a chance to make the playing roster). These are some of the reasons why I for one paid attention to this signing.
Good. He did a lot in college and is a mountain of a man. As Kurt said, if his weakness (his feet) really hinders his ability to play tackle at the next level, a move to guard ala Leonard Davis could be in store and he could possibly eventually develop into Moore's replacement.
I agree and don't understand why this post is being criticized...it's Jets "news" which is of higher value than Jets "speculation" which is what we get when the team is not at work. If people don't find the post interesting, all they have to do is ignore it. There's nothing less interesting than criticism of an "uninteresting" post. Back to the top at hand, the signing of Garner, which I find to be very interesting... I'm not sold on Damien Woody, much as I want to believe he will be an upgrade over Clement. I really want to Garner come in and take over the spot at some point during the season so that we can continue to build a young line that will grow together over time. Another thing to remember, a 7th round pick is not the dregs of college ball (remember, the NFL used to go 14 or 15 rounds with their draft). Mr. Irrelevant is the 224th best player in the collegiate ranks. And there are 22 positions on the field (not counting special teams.) I don't know the break out of the 2008 draft by positions, but we can speculate that there are an average of 10 players drafted at each of the 22 positions, so at worst, Nate Garner might be the 10th best tackle in the country. Even if he was the 20th tackle taken, that's still 20th out of approximately 400 starting tackles in Division 1 football? (115 D1 programs x two tackles per line). That's not counting decent prospects that come out of 1AA, 2 and even 3 programs every year). Statistically speaking, we should expect that a 7th rounder will come in and be a starter.
I'm not sure that you've statistically factored in that a guy can be a starter for 8 years in a row and that tackles don't start for one year and then get replaced by the next, etc. But your point is well taken, that the 7th is not the dregs of college football. Far from it. If this guy has the desire and the motor, we'll see how he does at TC. I agree with you as far as Woody taking over for Clement. Tangini must be looking at that also, which explains the drafting of Garner. May the best man win.
geez, this is NEW factual Jet news and some "harvard grads" are treating it like a rumor in US Weekly. On a daily basis, this site is crammed with wants/wishes and speculation. Why on earth would a fan of the team and a member of this forum bash Jet news, regardless how big or small they deem the information. This is a Jet forum where people talk Jet news, if that is not your intent, go somewhere else re-re.
Ah that expalins it. I was thinking he was a Bradwaysucks or Champ clone with the constant negativity. Come to think of it, are we sure they are not pats fans?
This is the writing of a man who's heart was broken by his favorite team on February 3rd, 2008. 2nd biggest upset ever, eh Bosko?
He lasted till the 7th for a couple of reasons. He was only a one year starter. He is very slow. Limited pass blocking. There is actually tons of film on him. Not really on him, but on McFadden, and Felix Jones. He is in almost all of them. It seems they ran to the right side about 80% of the time. He appears to be excellent at the point of attack. Pancakes a lot of people. Watch some of McFadden's and Jones' clips, but don't watch them. The kid seems to have a lot of potential, but he is a project. Much along the line of Bender.
I think he's further along than Bender was when he came into camp. Garner just has to work on pass protection techniques and he should be fine. I hope he can develop into a starter by the time Damien Woody is finished. Grading out at 90% or above in 6 games is very solid.
As as Jets fan outside the USA this is my means of finding out all the latest news. Please if you don't want to read it, then don't, but don't ruin it for everyone else. Roll on the new season!
