So..... the Jets are in a position to offer more money to a guy to compete for the #1 spot than the 49ers can for their starter? Have you seen the Jets' cap position, and are you aware of the needs that this team is facing currently?
Sean Hill does sound like an ideal guy, but you'd have to over pay him a bit, because he's in a very good system right now in Detroit. Why would he want to go to the Jets to just to be in a similar situation. Here's another thought. Brian Hoyer. He's going to be a RFA next season and I think a 6th or 7th round pick would get him from the Pats. Hoyer has looked good in the pre season when he's gotten a chance, as well in his limited opportunities in games. The Pats thought highly enough of him to make him the only other QB on the roster his rookie year as an UDFA. He knows he doesn't have a enough game experience to get a starting job, and he knows his time with the Pats is coming to an end because Mallett is being groomed to back up Brady, The Jets might make sense to him. Its a system that doesn't require him to be a dominant thrower, and Sanchez's situation is such that the possibility of getting a chance to start isn't nearly as far fetched as it would be with a lot of teams. All indications is that he does 2 things very well. He's a good decision maker and is very accurate, Beyond that he's very smart, well respected, and Brady speaks very highly of him....even though he went to Michigan State. Now whether BB would trade him to the Jets is another question, but someone will get a very well trained back up QB next season. It might as well be the Jets, because the price in salary and trade isn't going to be high.
There really aren't that many starting jobs available right now. If a guy, say Campbell or Orton, is looking for an opportunity to start, New York ain't the worst place he could end up.
What an "interesting" list. I can really see the JETS bringing in Orton 'cause Flynn is going to look to cash-in after his record-breaking performance. And since Kyle is not a billion years old like Brunell, he can be very good competition for Mark in TC. He NEEDS to be pushed in practice by someone who has been a starter himself that isn't over-the-hill. Orton fits that bill, though I'm not sure how available he'd be depending on what Kansas City does with him.
If I were Orton or Campbell or hill, I would see jets as an pretty good opportunity. Sanchez will not perform differently next season and hill for example will not replace stafford.
Nobody on that list will want to come in here as a Sanchez backup..are you kidding? Maybe if they were guaranteed a chance to win the job but our bullshit GM has already ruled that out.
Only if he breaks his leg..he has never been benched for even a minute since he got here...they are too worried about his pussy southern california psyche not being able to handle it.
they should sign matt flynn and start a revolutionary offense, in which the QB position would change after interceptions, so if sanchez threw a int, matt would play, if matt threw an int, then sanchez would come back lol
Will likely be looking for a starting QB: Redskins Seahawks Dolphins Browns Jaguars Broncos There are some other borderline cases, and you can make a case that Tebow will start (depending on the playoffs). But all of those teams need a QB, or if a good QB came along they'd let him win in camp. There are a few other borderline teams like the Jets that might want to push their starters (ie, Cassel) but why would you go to the Jets and deal with this clusterfuck instead of going somewhere like that?
That's why my preference from that list would be Orton, since he would win a fair contest with Sanchez and would be a clear upgrade at Qb. And I don't know why so many posters on this thread in effect are saying the Jets will not give anyone who they sign as a vet Qb the chance to start ahead of Sanchez. No matter what they show in camp and pre-season? Why not?
Out of that list... Campbell. not alot of Flash, but also least potential to crash. Matt Flynn, Packers - going to get $$$$ from someone Alex Smith, 49ers - most likely stay in SF Kyle Orton, Chiefs - overated. never really a fan Donovan McNabb, Vikings - Sorry Don, your time has PASSED. might as well keep Brunell Vince Young, Eagles - Oh God no.... fits as a backup to Vick, but don't want him coming off the bench. The JETS have enough turnover problems already
