Walter Rasby, TE NE News: Jets head coach Eric Mangini told the media that the Jets signed TE Walter Rasby. Rasby was released from the Patriots last week.
The tightends look awful. Jolley can pick up a blitz, but he either gets run right over or the defender run rights by him. He has no idea to block, but atleast he buys a second or two by getting in the way of the defender. Baker on the other hand can't do anything. He's horrible at picking up blitzes because he looks like he doesn't cares and he got charged with plenty of holding calls last year because he wraps when he blocks. Our line might struggle because of this, because using max protect is actually an advantage for the defense! It's ashame too, because Askew can block, but we need him in the flats to work as our tightend.
Well Koz....I always read what you post. To put a glimpse on what you're asking...The Jets' blew the TE position in last years draft. Heath Miller was the man...he was waiting for them at end of 1st round....then Jets' made that ill-fated Jolley trade. Basically, Jets' will have to use a lineman as a blocking TE this season, cause none of there present TE's can block adequately. The TE drafted from Wisconsin (Posiak..something like that, is out for the year). He's like 270 & mostly a blocker. The good thing here is, Tangini has wasted no time on improving weakness's on team. I'm just waiting for them to identify team weakness, before the rest of the league does.
I don't know I have always thought Chris baker was an adequate blocker. We resigned this guy so hes definetely our man. Lets see what he can do in a full season before anything. C'mon
