Yes I became aware of that reading the Indiana box score about 3 weeks ago. I did about 2 or 3 double takes….very rare indeed.

Ok but the way to manage this is to for AG and get the right coach. You can't compensate for a bad HC even if you bring Aaron Rodgers into the building (ask me how I know :) )

I was all for giving AG two or three years. But if you believe you can't draft a QB because AG is the coach, then AG has to go. You get a coach in here who you trust, and you draft the QB. That's my take.

I agree wholeheartedly that we should draft for need and trade up if we have to.

Biggest need is a top QB, so... :)

Very hard to say. Darnold had some bad games here with the Jets - worse even than we have seen from Fields. He probably wasn't just a year away, and Saleh wasn't the coach to get him there.

If Saleh was fired, an offensive mind came in, could he have been turned around quickly? I mean he clearly had the ability, we can see that now. I guess we will never know. Chalk it down to yet another Jets-ism....

Agreed. Don't take the cheese on the rising QB in the middle of the first round. No, he's not "almost" as good.

Amen. For what is worth, if they get their top choice even if they trade up I will be happy. And honestly I think you've said everything that needs to be said on this topic. Nice post

There’s not really any data saying AG and this staff can or can’t develop a QB. There are opinions of course, but it’s all based on Justin Fields performing well, like Justin Fields. There’s some stat that says he’s lost a bajillion games in his career when the opposing team scores like 21 or 24 points.

So yeah, AG didn’t convert Fields into a good QB but I have to doubt Andy Reid would’ve either.

Bringing Fields in for this staff and GM was sort of a win/win for them. If he performs well, they look brilliant if he performs as he always has well it is what it is.

    Perhaps.

All I'm saying is if you don't believe he is the right coach, don't adjust your plan to get a QB because of that. Get the right coach and move on

My personal view? I think he deserves another chance but he needs to get a more experienced OC, ideally a failed HC. He needs an experienced voice supporting him. Engstrand might not be the boob I think he is, but it's just too little experience across the board.

They don't win if they sign a tackling dummy as QB for 30mil and he proves he is a tackling dummy. It was a gamble. A bad one. They lost. Mougey has drafted some good players, but the Fields things is borderline fireable by itself.

Brian Daboll, for now, is the ONLY experienced OC I can think of that will definitely be on the street looking.

He would be a guy the Jets should roll the Brinks truck out for. Has successfully grown a HoF caliber QB, failed as a head coach but likely overqualified as an OC. Won't get a HC job this year.

    I'd love it.

As stubborn as Glenn is, do you REALLY think he'll fire or reassign the RBC/QBC back to a job he knows how to do? How long did it take Glenn to finally pull the plug on Fields. A runningbacks coach SHOULD NOT be mentoring your FQB fresh out of college. That's on Glenn 100% but with him channeling his inner Parcells, he'll never admit he fckd up that hire. So, drafting a kid out of college in the hope that out of nowhere, a mentor will show up and guide this kid is a reach. Almost as big a reach as Glenn actually hiring a QBC that knows what it takes to be successful in the league.

It isn’t though for the exact reason @Jonathan_Vilma said. This was never anything other than a trial that had a high chance at failing and its fairly obvious at this point that ownership was on board with the plan. The contract didn’t hamper the salary cap and you’re still looking to 2026 for your QB like you were going to be doing regardless of what bridge QB came here.

Am I missing something about the salary? I keep hearing if we cut him it's over a 20mill cap hit, that's hardly nothing. They signed him to starter money, noone else in the league was willing to do that so we were bidding against ourselves (the steelers were not paying him starter money after benching him)

$10 mil cap hit if we cut him, $20 mil if we keep him. So the answer is obvious there.

And yea you have to pay more than the Steelers if you want him so they did. I hate that that was the plan, but I get it.
