I think we can make the playoffs our margin for error is small. We must beat Miami and San Diego to keep pace. Two games we could/should win.

I guarantee you if the Jets are out of the playoff mix, and the Dolphins miss out on Luck with a win, that there will be a lot of people arguing why the Jets should lose the game in week 17. Guarantee it.

I don't even know if I would be totally against it. I would never root against the Jets in an individual game, but that would be a scenario where if they lost, I wouldn't be totally upset, just like other week 17 games when you're hustling for a draft pick. Yeah, I always want to win, and that's what I root for during the game, but if they lose, I won't be at all upset. The Fish would miss Luck and the Jets would get a slightly better pick, might be better long-term in that one scenario.

Let's hope we never get to that point.

that's exactly my take on things as well. thought we'd be 4-2 after the Dolphins game. i still think we'll be 3-3 and there's plenty of season after that. losing to the Pats and Ravens in their buildings is certainly nothing to flip out over.

we have a 4 game stretch starting right before thanksgiving where we play the Bills Redskins Chiefs and Broncos. IMO those 4 games will make or break our season. before we get there we simply need to play a game over .500 and I believe we will.

In that scenario, you would be retarded not to root against the Jets

Let's drop ALL the remaining games and then pick the best pass rusher in the draft!! Why aren't I General Managing? This is good shit I'm coming up with.

It's still very early, the likelihood going into this stretch was that we'd lose at least 2 of them. We lost 3, it sucks but we have really only played one awful game all season. This team is going to be fine, the O wasn't great yesterday but they showed signs of improving. Sanchez looked very tentative for most of the game but looked better as the game progressed, the run game got going a bit as well. defensively we stunk but we faced a damn good offense that we struggle w/ up there in the reg season.

I feel more confident now than I have at any point in the season. I think we are getting ready to go on a long win streak.

It's pathetic, but I thought of that after they lost last week...goddamnit I hope they don't get that guy.

The team hasn't been very good but 2 and 3 is no time to panic. If we win the next 2 get to the bye and get things fixed we can still make a solid run to the playoffs.

Really good teams make runs of wins and we still have that opportuinity if the Coaching staff is up to it and the players are willing to buy in.

Realistically right now this is not a team bound for the playoffs. More than one thing has to be fixed for them to make it. Not saying they won't, but at this point there's no reason to think the Jets should be considered favored over any teams on their schedule that have winning records.

So what would you guys say was our biggest loss in the offseason,or the biggest factor changing this team from making the AFCCG last year,to this clusterfuck this year? Or did we just get lucky last year and catch fire at the right time in the playoffs?

I think it's still too early to tell. We went through bad stretches each of the last 2 years and rebounded, I am expecting it to happen again.

This is a 7-9 win team. It was clear from the first game.

In order to be an elite team, the Jets need:

    1) A new OC. This is the biggest problem.
    2) An OLB to replace Thomas. Someone who can get 8+ sacks but won't kill us in the run game.
    3) An upgrade at FS. Smith is god-awful.
    4) Upgrade at RT. Hunter is really bad.

They can find 2-4 in the first 3 rounds of the draft.

    I have some others:

DL Rotation. This is not an elite group by any means. WIlkerson has played like a rookie. At least he's not awful, but we don't know yet whether he will become a solid contributor.

Leonhard. I loved his play last year before he got hurt, but he's not playing as well coming back from surgery.

Strickland and Wilson. Wilson looks better this year, but he had a crap game yesterday. Strickland i used to like. Not anymore. he sucks.

OL. Moore looked better with Mangold back, but I still think the Jets need to think about replacing him in a year or two. Bench strength is still a big issue here.

RB. I think Green is no better than average, and actually is probably less than average. THis is a problem if the Jets really intend to remain a Ground and Pound team.

Sanchez. That's deserving of a thread in itself. I don't think there's a clear answer what to do here, but he has not shown any improvement from last year.

Same here,i just hope it doesn't happen too late. I remember not thinking too much of this team at times last year when we barely beat some lower teams. But it worked out ok when it mattered

Luckily the NFC East sucks this year and I think we can sweep them. Then we should be able to beat the Phins twice, Chiefs, Broncos...

We must go 2-2 against the Chargers, Patriots, Bills (2x) at worst.

If the jets have to worry about beating Miami,at home, with their starting QB out, then we might as well forget the season all together.

Is Miami in full on suck-for-luck mode, or are they still looking to win? The trade deadline is soon, Henne is out for the year and I'm thinking Kyle Orton can be had a lot cheaper than in the preseason....

I'm a pretty gloom-n-doom guy most of the time, but jeez. This thread is a pool of misery. We have 3 losses people. Even if we lose 3 more throughout the year we stand a legit shot at being in the playoffs. The only thing the last 3 games did was take us out of contention for the division. Nothing else.

And we were missing our best player not named Revis for two of them.

Miami is a must-win. I think that's obvious considering we should be at full-strength, and they just stink. Beyond that, San Diego will be a game we need to fight for. Forward from that, we'll see. Unless the Pats somehow lose a couple over the next few weeks the next meeting is only important if we lose a couple of the ones in between, in which case we need to start looking at a win-out scenario.

It's October 10. While we haven't played playoff-caliber football yet, acting like any game over the next month is a "must win" (apart from beating an awful Miami squad) is ridiculous. We need to play better. That's all.
