That ball he caught while he was on the groudn was amazing. He also made a nice play in which he was called for going out and coming back in which it did not appear to be the case on the one replay they showed.
The guys definitely looked strong with the 1s in. Hopefully we can get Revis signed before regular season, I think we're going to need him.
Victor Cruz is going to be a player in the league, he was damn good last night. I honestly believe we only had truly bad coverage on one pass that he caught. Despite the fact he had lowery in a headlock, he still made a crazy one-handed grab, then he had the play Lowery over-ran, it is going to happen, not to Revis, but i am willing to bet every other cb in the NFL has over-run a pass to a receiver when the ball is underthrown. The Cruz made that grab on the ball way behind him against solid coverage, it kind of reminded me of Revis' INT against the Bengals in the playoffs. Then we all knew Drew Coleman was terrible, he got completely torched! But on the last TD throw against Cole, Cole had his hand between the ball and Cruz chest, he had his hand on the ball, and Cruz caught it anyways! outside of the first catch, that should have been offensive PI, and drew coleman, Cruz made plays against solid coverage, and just flat out beat our guys by himself. Apart from trying to stop Cruz, we shouldnt be all that upset, the guy just was flat out good last night. other points from last night, I am not suddenly down on Folk like the rest of you, how often does a kicker kick 4 fgs in one game without missing one? not very often. Yes Folk should have made that kick, but its not like he missed the upright by a mile, it was only like a foot or two... But that actually says more about our offense than folk that we had to settle for 4 fgs, we need to be finding a way to get in the endzone, because if you let teams hang around..... one big play the other way changes the game. LT is rejuvenated and going to be extremely awesome to watch this year. I thought Mark Brunell was horrendous last night, and scares me to shit thinking about him as our backup. #15 Larry Taylor, seemed to get the oppurtunity to return all punts and kickoffs, which surprised me quite a bit, granted I don't think he fielded a single punt, but he certainly did show a good burst, the guy has some wheels thats for sure. He might be a PS guy this season.
We've had too many bad kickers over the years and we finally had one we could feel confident about and we let him go so Folk has alot of work to do to gain the confidence of the team and fans.
Overall I think we played a very solid game. The defense looked ridic and they are picking up right from where we left off last year. The only thing on the defense I am really worried about is Cromartie's tackling skills. What the hell was he doing that first tackle, dancing with the guy? If he can get his tackling down and we get Revis back, watch out NFL. PS: Coleman needs to go asap.
BTW, did Coles ever make it on the field? I don't remember seeing him at all. Oh, he must have he was a target of one pass. And to the dismay of many on this site it looks like Woodhead will certainly make the team again.
I was at the game. It was pretty clear in the first half that the Jets were clearly the better team. They were dominating the trenches and had much better energy. This was w/o alot of the exotic blitz packages. I was really impressed w/ the way Sanchez bounced back from the INT and both the OL and DL.
I agree for the most part, we outplayed them but did not pull away score wise with our 1's. Our 2's will have to see time this year and they were dissapointing. One comment on the giants, they will have to figure out how to protect their quaterbacks. All three took some pretty hard shots, They get credit for sticking in there and making plays but over the course of a game and the season those hits add up.
Giants were missing Boss, Snee, O'Hara, Seubert, Smith, Phillips, and BUllock (I think 1 more I can't remember - too lazy to look up). So the Jets 1's dominated a Giant's 1.5. I just don't want to be a Jets homer. The D def looks good. I still think we are a bit thin at CB. I'm less worried about folk than I was before the game. As stated above, if we lose Wilson or Cro for even a game or two we are fucked.
The title of this thread and most of the posted comments says it all. I'm starting to notice the Jets can only beat themselves. When other teams win, it's because of 1. Flukes and/or 2. The Jets beating themselves.
The first pre-season game, so I don't know what you can really take away from it. I shit when Sanchez threw the pick, it looked like midseason Sanchez from last year, but he seemed to recover nicely. I was surprised he stayed in as long as he did. They have to put the ball in the endzone, though. Can't let teams hang around. Biggest disappointment was lack of pressure from D-line (was Jason Taylor even there?) Nice suprises from Tomlinson and B. Edwards. Again, first preseason game, what does any of it really mean? Stadium looked nice, though. Also, are Giant fans that effing insecure about their place in the city that they have to act like total douches before, during and after a meaningless preseason game? I can dig a little good natured back and forth, but alot of G fans acted like aholes.
I rewound the first half last night and watched Slauson for the snaps he played. He's a pretty good run blocker, but there were about 5 times I saw him get flat-out beaten by his man in pass protection, and overall he struggled in that department. I want to see if he gets his feet under him in the next couple of games, because Ducasse looked much worse in comparison.
What effect, if any, do you think Mangold's absense had on Slauson's and Ducasse's performance last night?
IDK how the few people here can be concerned with what they saw. We saw our Jets pretty much dominate the Giants without studying any film or planning and especially without opening the playbook at all. I'm pretty impressed with what I saw from the ones.
Agreed we had trench superiority on both sides of the ball. Mark recovered nicely after the pick, LT should shut up some of the critics for now, Braylon looked phenomenal, our pass rush looked sharper, and Santonio made Clemens look like a Pro-bowler, which is fucking amazing all by itself. Oh and that #38 kid looks alright too. I think Rex is a fan :breakdance:
All I know is that Holmes is that much better than everyone else when he's on the field... I have no doubt him and Sanchez will be sick starting week 5
We were also playing without the best center in the game, Nick Mangold. As far as CB goes, yes were are screwed if Cromartie goes down. Coleman is just terrible and I hope he doesn't see the field this year. There were at least two instances where lowery had excellent coverage, but couldn't break up the play. He seems to not turn his head around at the right time to break up the play. I thought that Eric Smith had a good game, and looked to be the only one making plays in the second half. Back to Tanenbaum and hard knocks, didn't he mention trading for a CB if things with Revis didn't get settled? Is this out of the question?
It's the fucking preseason who gives a shit who wins or loses? Scoreboard doesn't mean anything in the preseason
