"I don't know why Folk is getting so much praise in this thread. His kicks were scraping the uprights." He better watch it; those are brand new uprights you know.
The good: First and second down defense. Run defense, generally. The bad: Passing offense. Third down offense. LT ran well, but he only gets to keep touching the ball if the sticks are moving. The ugly: We nearly gave up more yardage in penalties than we gained on offense.
This. He was one of my biggest worries coming into the season. While I still worry, he is no longer one of my biggest...though I'm not sure if it was his doing or everybody elses.
Well you're right. He was the only thing saving us from absolute humiliation. I do think he was a little lucky tonight on his kicks. His inconsistency worries me.
The Good Joe Flacco. I thought for sure he was going to shit himself after that first play strip sack. This guy is the real deal. It's human nature, or I guess fan nature, to look at your own team's weaknesses after a loss instead of the other team's strengths. Our secondary was raped tonight, sure; but they were raped by a young, elite quarterback. Steve Weatherford. Don't tell me we need a new punter. Props to all of the special teams. Mike Westhoff is the only guy who properly prepared his entire unit tonight. One point. I don't want to go homer here, but that was some ugly, undisciplined, poorly planned, flag-laden, injured, tired-ass football this team just played. We lost by one point to a very good football team. I expect that to be the worst performance by the Jets this year. Please god, let that be the worst performance by the Jets this year. The Bad The flags. We were flagged excessively. That's all there is to it. The officials raped us. But... when you put the fucking ball in the air downfield, you're going to draw some flags. Brian Schottenheimer might want to think about that. Jenkins. I'll knock on wood until I'm blue in the face, but that knee buckled exactly the same way it did last year. He's done. Shonn Greene. I'm just so disappointed. The Ugly The Coaches. We were NOT outplayed tonight; we were outcoached. I'd like somebody to take Brian Schottenheimer outside and slap him around, but it sure as shit shouldn't be Rex Ryan. On offense, it's as if somebody drew a very large circle around Ray Lewis with about a twenty yard radius. All of our plays were designed to run in this area. Smart. On defense, hubris. Pure hubris. "We've got the best corners in the league!" No, we don't. Don't put the fucking rookie on an island against an all-pro, I don't give a shit what round he was drafted in.
Y'know this happened to him in almost identical fashion in his rookie season against the Cowboys. Demarcus Ware strip sacked him and recovered the fumble at like the 5 yard line in the opening play, Boys then scored the go ahead touchdown. He ended up playing well and kept his composure, and they won the game. Here is the video if anyones curious Definitely the real deal
Week 1 vs. Ravens -It's almost as if the organization has no faith in Sanchez throwing the ball. -Cromartie & Wilson have to turn around when covering a receiver and back off of him. Is it ironic that Revis was the best in the secondary tonight? -The offensive penalties were sickening. -Shonn Greene needs a lesson in handling the football. Hey, at least Nick Folk made all of his kicks..., and the fact that it's Week 1 and we shouldn't worry, just yet. I mean, the Colts lost to the Texans, who aren't a bad team, but they aren't as good as the Ravens. Losses come, it's a part of the game. The Jets mistakes just need to be taken care of against the Pats, of all teams. Remain faithful, it's just the beginning.
why dog the guy when he was the only point maker of the night? concentrate your efforts elsewhere where we really need help!
GREAT post. Especially agree about the coaching. Ryan walks a fine line between ballsy and retarded sometimes.
