Dude, Thomas Jones was handed his job, Brick was pretty much handed his, Jenkins didn't have to earn his spot..... When you have a proven guy, you're not bringing in a sacred cow. Now, if it was Brady Quinn and he was handed the job, that would be another story. If Denver cut Cutler and we signed him for dirt cheap, he'd still be given the starting job and it wouldn't make any difference. It's not the magnitude of the deal that compels the coach to give the guy the job, it's how good the guy is.
Cutler would beat any qb on the roster hands down coming off a 4500 yard passing season, pro bowl season.
But if you had to bet, who do you think would be better in 2009 - Cutler or Ratliff? Of course none of us know for sure, but speculating that Ratliff - coming out of nowhere and throwing a couple of decent balls in preseason - would even be in the same league as Cutler - a pro bowl qb who was highly touted out of college and always supposed to be great - is simply insane. I don't think you believe that and assume you're just kidding around.
i'd do it in a nano second. cb's and safety's can be replaced rather easily. franchise qb's are extremely hard to come by, jets are the perfect example of that... to be super bowl contenders, you have to have a quality qb, no if's, ands about it.....
Shut down corners are jsut as hard to come by. Start naming off all the true lock down guys in the NFL and see how many you come up with. Rhodes has talent. With his combo of size and range he could have a very, veyr productive year in Rex's system play the role of Ed Reed. I'd rather not give up one of our young corenrstone defenders in any trade.
dont forget how much of a baby Cutler is being through all this. What happens the first time he throws an int and a jerk reporter calls him out? Will he demand a trade then?
