Golly, this thread sure is civil! All these "Dears" and "Mr's." Not a single "ur gay," nor a solitary "STFU." Kudos, gentlemen! We have turned a new leaf here at the ganggreen.com- this thread will usher in an era of open discourse, proper etiquette and intelligent dialogue. Thanks a lot, Pussies!
Now, NDmick, there you go putting words in my mouth. I will say that you don't need a great quarterback if you do have a great offensive line and a great defensive line to win games. There is far too much Savior-itis at the TGG, and not enough "where is the rest of the team?" I think that the fans of the NYJ give far too much misbegotten credit to the OL and the DL (who, in my opinion, have been chronic under-achievers for a very long time) and far too much blame for the hapless skill players who have to manifest in spite of them. There is no tradition of smash mouth on this team.
Appreciate the shout-out KeepC&K, but this was actually FOURTHANDLONG's post. I was the grammar nazi.
Now Ya'll boys play nice. It is possible to disagree and disrespect and contradict and refute without getting down in the mud and fussin' and fightin' as if we were still 8 and Momma isn't look out the window yet.
Mr. Beaman, my guess is that you think I have a favorite between Chad and Kellen. And you certainly think it's Chad. First of all, I don't. I think the requirement for a long ball as a response to our successful new power running game will take care of itself as far as who the QB is. The requirement needs to be met, period. As far as my point about the OL, this TGG "One-Note Samba" about who the QB should be begs the question of why we are losers, and why we're not regular winners. First you have to fix what's most wrong -- and that's the OL, and then it's the DL. If you can't run and you can't stop the run, it hardly matters about your skill players. Hopefully (and we don't know for sure until the real thing starts) we have taken some steps in the right direction. But you guys who think that piling on the QB will make a difference are just "One-Note Sambas". And so, in my mind, you deserve a little contra-puntal One-Note response. In my opinion, we need to fix what "ails us" first, and then refine the smaller flaws (like the QB, for instance) as a secondary issue. I much rather win 14-7 because the other team cannot score on us, and we can run over them, than worry about the pedigree of our QB while we are losing 20-7 behind piss-poor Big Uglies.
No, you've said "Savior" more than once, and my last post cleared up my opinion. I do agree with your pure conviction you voice here. But I just feel there is more to the QB than you do- all opinions.
KC&K, I would like you to reconsider that thought. Infact, most of the users on TGG blame skill players for losses. Those same users now argue that we will win 8-12 games coming season. Indirectly, they admit it that even though we have the same QB,RB, and WRs, this team will be almost 3 times as good as last yr. WOW...thats some change. Reason? Because they all know that its not just the QB or the RB or the WRs that control the fate of the team. Infact, its the team that controls its fate. Its those extra players we picked up in the offseason that will make the difference and help the incumbents of other positions too. Also, you are rite about deep passing that will open up the running game. Two points worth mentioning: 1. CP is a great play action faker, but he needs the running game to help him out. Not so sure how KC is with play action fake but its not rocket science. He will learn that too. Without the running game, there is no such thing as play action. 2. You also have to compensate the ground attack by providing some deep passing attack. Deep does'nt have to be 40 yards. 20-30 is more than enough to gain a couple yard advantage. Both the QBs are good enough to provide this support aswel. I've maintained before and I still maintain this...we will be a far better team this yr. There is a very good chance we go 10-6 this yr.
Sounds alot like the 67 and 83 Raiders and the Steelers of the 70's. To bad we don't have Bradshaw, Lamonica or Plunkett to heave the rock down the field to great HOF WR. It would be nice to actually have a great OL and HOF running back in the mix to make it work. Can you imagine Chad making those throws to Swann and Stalworth or Cliff Branch? Just win baby.
Translated to KC&K: So we need the big uglies to run around and tear heads off so the ballerina dancers can get open to make plays, only to have the straw mans arm fall off when it comes time to throw the rock and we've only got 2 minutes to cover the green mile and reach the land of OZ?
Now, Jets81, it's that strawman fellow I keep having the problems with. How is it you think that such a ne'er do well will be chosen winner of the competition if the primary pre-requisite is to throw the long pass, now that we have a power running game. Now that mystifies me that you would jump to such a conclusion. Other than that, I look at your "plane Ainglish" translation and it's really not so very bad -- I do like the Big Uglies smashing the other guys in the mouth so the skill players (like the RBs and the FBs and all) can do their jobs without pesky hindrance from wayward DL bad guys. One of these days the NYJs will get waked up, stop all this "finesse" stuff, and play some tough and bloody football down there in the trenches. That is what I am hoping. Fervently.
