But Chad will not be 100% healthy for several weeks more. Even though he warmed up it was like a circus parlour trick. You could tell that he could not really put any pressure whatsoever on the ankle and play. Mangini may well start Pennington but if he does it this week, Pennington will be far from 100% and will have a very good chance of reinjury.

To the original poster, you could also use the delays of game as a reason to START Clemens as he did not let them affect his play, and went out and made plays after the mistake. It is also something that Kellen will get better and better at with game experience.

It is a tough call for Mangini, much tougher than the Chadettes will ever ever admit.

You know that is true and something that Mangini might pick up. There is one thing to being selfless with the team and risking further injury to help the team out, it is another to try to play when you cannot help the team to try and protect your position and that is what Chad did.\

I hope Mangini makes the right decision and starts Kellen from here on out. He IS READY. And I think we will win MORE games with Kellen at the helm than CHad because of the way defenses will have to play against us. You saw it in the Ravens game. They were not in the prevent, but once they realized that Kellen could throw over the top of the defense, they could not blitz everyone and crowd the line, and Kellen got the protection he needed.

I've seen recent video of Chad walking around and it looks like he's not limping. Not saying he'll be 100% by Sunday morning, but with more rehab this week and a little practice, Chad will almost be back to where he needs to be.

Besides, we're not facing a team like the last two. In fact, I think we'll see a completely different Jets team against the Dolphins this week because we'll be able to do more. I expect a real exciting game on both sides of the ball:

    Jets 30
    Dolphins 16

Kellen was not calling his own plays he had to wait for the call from Schotty is it at all possible that the play was sent in too late and it wasn't Clemons fault at all?????? Don't assume..........

The one delay of game penalty was when the Ravens defense crowded the line of scrimage. If Clemens doesn't take the time to get the his blockers set up he is on his back for 4th and long.

I eprsonally dont think that at all. Hell if a guy comes out for me and shows dedication to get there early testing his own ankle to try and prove he is ready to play the game he aint a kiss ass, he is a guy who wants to play the game that he loves to play, the only thing he has ever done substantially ands willing to put his body on the line. I saw the video of him trying out and ht wasnt obvious that he shoudlnt play, he was moving ok, and he looked good apart from the last bit where it seemed to tell on his ankle and he moved a bit gingerly. I love a guy like that, and im happy we have someone like that on the Jets.

If you have ever played organized team sports, the worst thing is the world is sitting out while your teammates are out there playing especially if you think you can help them win. It's just the athlete and competitor in him --it's noble but luckily there is a coach who keeps the teams best interest at heart. KC was the right call.

I have played organized team sports almost my whole life. I think what i'm trying to say is the showing up 5 hours early, trying to convince Mangini (and he's done that in the past) makes him look like a kiss ass. Mangini is as prepared as it gets. He knows if the guy can go or not. Showing up early to convince him isn't necessary.

Did you ever think not so much kiss ass, but a guy who knows his time as a starter is limited and he needs to prove he can still carry the load, semi injured or healthy. And Chad is a workhorse. Hes been like that his entire time here. Even Herm said he is one of the hardest working guys (before injury)

I think its more of a stand by him to say look i can play, i give us the best chance at winning and im not lloking to sit out a big game

Chad knew that a good showing from Clemens last week could have meant his the end of his days as a starting Qb in the Nfl. If Stone hand J-mac would have caught one of those passes his days might be done now. Time waits for no Qb and Chad is on borrowed time.

I don't think a couple of delay penalties is the reason why Chad is starting. That said, I agree with your point. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the sacks were a result of Clemens not making the proper adjustments before the snap. Too many times a defensive back was able to come in untouched for me to believe that wasn't the case.

we are two games in..lets see how pennington does in the next three games against these average teams if he gets the job done then lets have his back and if he doesnt lets see what KC can do, but im with pennington saying lets support whoevers out there no matter what type of Qb we prefer

I watched the game, the team was all lined up in plenty of time, he just didn't snap the ball. Whether he was thinking about an audible, or just checking out how the Ravens were lined up, I don't know, but he just didn't get the play off in time. Even if it were the case that Schottenheimer was slow with the play call, its still up to Clemens to call a timeout if hes not going to get the snap off.

To whoever said that even Tom Brady and Peyton Manning occasionally get hit with a delay of game, yes they do... but I dare you to find the last time either of those guys (or any other quarterback on a winning team for that matter) did it on 3rd and short. Particularly when your playing catchup, it really hurts to give up an easy conversion chance like that. This time he got away with it and got the conversions, but thats the kind of stuff you just can't have.

And to whoever said hes only going to learn this stuff by playing, thats true to a degree, but not entirely. He can also learn it by watching and learning from a guy whos got the mental side down about as well as any quarterback in the league. And while playing clearly accelerates the learning curve... theres a reason why you always see teams decide to go to the young guy late in the season when they're already out of the playoff hunt. As long as you're playing for something, you hate to give away games to help educate a youngster.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Clemens did some nice stuff on Sunday, we could sit here and rattle off a pretty long list of quarterbacks picked higher in the draft, quarterbacks with a lot more hype and fanfare around them, who came in and stuck up the stadium in their first start. Clemens only stunk up the first three quarters (not that hes entirely to blame, the rest of the team did their share).

But the real point of my post was to address all those who thought, for some reason, that Clemens gives the team a better chance to win this year just based on the fact that he throws the ball faster. Theres a lot more that goes into winning a football game, and not giving up easy conversion opportunities because you don't have the presence of mind to call a timeout when you have to is one of the easy ones.
