The only way he could get the cap $ he wanted was to give Curtis that long of a deal. It was a 2 phased deal as well to spread the money later because the team was in "win now" mode. I'm sorry, but to blame Bradway only is a huge mistake. Tannanbaum was responsible as well. I know, Bradway probably told him "get it done" but he didn't pick the terms.
 that was the noodle arm contract. besides, he made so many mistakes, it's tough to keep track of them all without cataloging them.
As stated by others, Martin was untradable due to cap # Also we still would not have been able to pay two RBs starting money meaning we still lose Lamont and lastly (and Idon't know the answer to this) How much has KC paid Holmes to sit in the training room the last two years?
So what is the difference again? Both backs led the league in rushing 1 season (I think) and neither of their teams went deep in the playoffs. Both suffered potentially career ending injuries last year. Then you have the complication that had Priest panned out here as well as he did in KC, LaMont still would have left. The only way we would have Priest and LaMont last year and this year is if Priest sucked and was only a product of the KC system which means we would have probably stumbled through some RBBC years until LaMont seized the starting job.
actually, we could have paid both lamont and curtis and some other guys who left, if so much money under the cap wasn't tied up in a qb who only played 16 games in 5 years.
Actually, to have a record of 21-15, Dukwing would have had to play in 36 games... Not that I'm keeping count or anything... Lets see... 36/60 x 100 = 60% Hmmm... comes up up just a bit short here but it is better than even. Then again, I'm no math wiz. edit: that would be 36/80 x 100 = 45%.. Dang, that's even worse over a 5 year span.
What I was trying to say was that the FO was pretty much backed into a corner, and that deal was pretty much the only way out of the jam. I'm also saying I can't really critisize it either. almost water under the bridge at his point though....
As was pointed out by another poster, the 5347 had to be a typo. Martin gained 6347 rushing yards the past 5 seasons. You should have known something was up when you saw that 3.8 number. Martin's ypc was 4.2 from 2001-05. You are a little off on the receiving stats, as well. These are the correct numbers: 209 catches 1307 yards 6.3 average 2 TDs Also, the Holmes averages are 4.7 and 9.6. Elias and the NFL round those numbers. I'm sorry to do this, but I'm going to have to give you a Beavis, sir.
yeah now it looks like we screwed up, and yeah we prolly did, but I loved Curtis at the time. This happens to every team in the league, your superstars get old and you have to rebuild. Oh well it sucks but its our turn the ride was fun while it lasted though right?
I agree, the Jets had to make a tough decision, they stuck by it and it worked out well in 2004, but now its time to move on and rebuild.
Give it a break, MMQ, try not to rip one of our very few hall of fame players, he certainly earned his money and always gave 110%. What we could have and should have done over the last 5-6 years, signing Curtis is the least of our problems.
Oh boy. So Holmes was a better option than Martin? Holmes played only three full seasons with Kansas City. And since when was LaMont Jordan great? And did you see my post above where I posted the correct stats?
All I did is say it was just another mistake like thousands of others before that one that have prohibited us from being WORLD CHAMPIONs. You do remember that the Boys let go of Emment do U not? No matter how much U like a player there is a time when that player position has to be upgraded. Also stats are for followers of losing teams IMHO. They will not tell U if the player will aid you or not. Just look at JMaC stats with TN & then look at his with us. Enuf said?
