I know AA played corner. I wonder what his role will be this year.. Who is the other safety you're talking about tho?
in fairness to Walls, he's not a bad player, he was just put in over his head. He' a solid player to have rounding out your depth chart to use as needed situationally.
Walls would have been fine in the slot. But, you know, we had some other asset at that position. You know, I never thought of this until now: is it possible the Kyle Wilson could have made a better outside corner than a slot DB? I mean, it's hard to imagine that he could be worse at it...
Nah. They had nothin' last year and still didn't put him out there. Wilson outside on an island in press man is a disaster, he gets lost. The slot suits him better when he has the play in front of him and can come up and make the tackle. Maybe he could be a serviceable CB in a Cover2 scheme zone....with the play in front of him, at best. Everybody need's and plays press CB's now tho. Remember when Stevie Johnson chewed him up and spit him out....used him. Rex had to pull him. That was a bad day for Kyle
Ah, yes, I DO remember that game and that particular sequence. I think playing the slot is more than "come up and make the tackle..." cause Wilson could do that most of the time. It's the "preventing completions to the slot receiver" that Wilson sucks at. Anyway, won't have him to kick around anymore.
As for Pace we of course know he's getting older, but it's not like he's got a huge contract. He played pretty well last yaer, and I believe is in good shape. so to cut him now? Unless someone steps up to replace him, I don't see the point.
Pace may have deteriorated a bit with age, but he's still a very serviceable LB that simply does not make mistakes. Wouldn't you want Mauldin learning from him? I would. The guy has managed to have a very long and successful career in the NFL.
Keep him.. He isn't costing much. The experience and knowledge that he provides to the young guys is invaluable.
His sack numbers that year were incredibly inflated. Even this year if you look at how rarely he was around the QB. He had 8 QB hits last season. The same amount as Dawan Landry & Jaiquawn Jarrett. Those are dreadful numbers for a 3-4 OLB.
Pace should stay for at least the season. If Mauldin is a franchise OLB, than he can start next season. Having said that, Mauldin has done nothing yet. And from what I've seen of him, I doubt he'll become this great edge rusher. Seems like a great human being and I'll be rooting for him, but I wouldnt bet on him being our starting pass rusher for years.
Not really, not when he had to play back most of the time besides we have no one better and won't anytime soon.
so when he has low sack numbers its legit, when its high its some made up fake number or "inflated" come on
Solid how? Is he good in coverage? No. How bout rushing the passer? No. So what is he good at being old and slow? He is taking up a roster space and needs to go away. Let the young guy play and if you want an old fart still at that position keep Babin. At least Babin doesn't have cement feet.
I'm sure its been mentioned but I'd rather cut Babin over Pace. Pace isn't ideal but it appears that he is the best we got. Unless someone steps it up.
