I tune in when driving (drive pretty often), it's a good show because he actually works for ESPN so the videos are pretty legit. Little Stern esque at times but definitely worth a listen, he does 2 shows a day all year talking Jets lol, gotta admire the commitment.
I listened to the episode in question, he plays a clip from Florio discussing Glenn being one and done. I don't see it, obviously would love it but I don't see it happening, Florio is a bit of a hack. He has guests that do a lot of breakdowns of the all 22 film which is nice to understand what is going on with schemes and designs while also analyzing individual players and what not. The defense film hasn't been pretty all year lol.
Yeah I don’t have time for all of it but I did listen to a bunch of it, thanks for posting! He does play the Florio clip and the cliff notes version are a couple of points I got out of it: 1. He doesn’t think Woody will fire AG after just one year…not that AG doesn’t deserve to get fired, but he just doesn’t think Woody would do it, especially after trading away “the two best players on D”…he pointed out how the last time Woody spoke publicly he gave AG full support and basically blamed Fields. 2. He said something along the lines of “if you think AG should get fired, it’s a valid thought” 3. He also said that it’s hard to call out exactly what AG does well…he doesn’t call the plays, he hasn’t coached up guys like he had said he would before the season, the Wilks hire was a bad mistake, etc….pretty much the only thing you can point to and say AG did well was hire Banjo as ST Coordinator 4. This team is not like the Saints are right now, where they started shitty but now are trending up with a couple good wins against division opponents…instead we are trending down and he thinks we’ll lose out…14 losses would be bad company, for as bad as we’ve been historically, the Jets have only lost 14 games twice…the Kotite and Gase years…and this is with 17 games on the schedule Honestly I pretty much agree with all of it…I do think AG has shown next to nothing, I do think he deserves to be one and done, but I don’t think Woody will do it. The other guy on the podcast asked a good question…he’s like yeah I agree Woody probably doesn’t fire AG, but what if we lose like 90-10 against the Bills and Pats combined with those games coming up? Would that embarrassment be enough to tip Woody’s hand? He still didn’t think so… Overall a good listen for as long as I stayed with it, and sounds like a conversation we here would have if we were talking live instead of posting, but it’s not like it was a reporter with inside info or anything like that…just a couple guys talking Jets
I agree. Glenn has not shown anything. What's the point of bringing him back? We all can agree we all find it likely he will struggle next year so if we all can agree on that then what's the point of stalling the inevitable. I honestly think if the Jets cant get Mendoza there is a chance Glenn gets sent home because who in their right mind is going to Jets games next year and buying season tickets?
It would literally be the same mistake that Woody made when he retained Saleh for the second Rodgers season. It was clear that he wanted to clean house, but for whatever reason didn't do it. Instead, he waits until five games into the next season to do what he should have done months ago and it derailed an entire season. Retaining Glenn would be a sign that the lesson was not learned from that situation, only with the added bonus of it allowing us to miss out on a once in a generation chance for a full reset of the franchise with a massive haul of 1st and 2nd round picks to really get things headed in a decent direction.
Jake is a cool guy, huge Jets fan and is dedicated to his craft, works ESPN radio too. Has some connections also. I listen to him occasionally when there is an interesting topic or a person he is talking to, which is quite often. Met him as well at a tailgate for one of the games. Great in person as well. On one of the shows he brought a Detroit guy, who covered the team for many years, and he basically said the same things we are seeing now, inability to adjust, not great schematically, and in general was very negative about Glenn. He was actually glad when Glenn left Detroit. Unfortunately these things are coming true. I will try to find the clip and post here.
He has guys come on for weekly spots, fireman Ed, Joe Beningo and a lot of Jets content guys like JetX factor, Buffalo Jet fan, etc. It's entertaining content if you like that kind of thing, like I said I tune in for typically the first hour of each show, the rest is usually more Stern like content.
After @BroadwayAaron brought this up, I can't help but think about how Kraft turned around NE. I have been a fan since the 90s, and until Kraft came onboard in 1994 NE was one of the worst organization in the NFL historically. Before that NE NEVER won a SB and had 1 appearance in 35 years. To be fair he had Parcells already when he got there. But still Parcells made the SB in his 3d year as the owner. Parcells then leaves for the Jets and Kraft hires Carroll. He gave Carroll 3 years. 1st year he made play-offs and won one game, second year made play-offs but lost, 3d year 8-8 and missed play-offs. He then fires Carroll, thinking this is not good enough, and he wanted to get back to SB, and instead steals Belichick from the Jets to recreate Bill Parcells success with NE. We can argue that he pulled the trigger too soon and Carroll was a good coach, but Kraft apparently likes instant coffee. Belichick goes 5-11 1st year, but Kraft gives him one more chance since Bill made SB before with Parcells. He then wins the SB very next year and goes on a historic run. And yet when he missed play-offs for two years in a row, Kraft still dumps him. 6 SBs or not or not, that's in the past, you have to deliver NOW!!! Mayo comes in and goes 4-13, and guess what - not good enough. Doesn't even get the second year. Kraft is the guy where you have to deliver when you get a chance, you are accountable. There is no 3d or 4th chances. You may get a second chance if you have done something great before. But a guy like Saleh would have been fired after two years MAX. Gase probably after a year. And yes AG too would have been fired after 1 year, no different than Mayo. Yes, Belichick got a second chance after 5-11, but he was Parcells' successor and they went to SB in NE. Mayo was not this guy. And neither is AG. Granted I also think Kraft got lucky to have as much success as he did, but still It's about the probabilities really. Sure there is a chance AG can become a successful coach. But what are the chances though of a guy who had a historically bad start and a year like that will have that success? It's much lower than starting fresh. And Kraft moves on quickly to increase the probabilities of success. He does not care about the money. For him to eat 30 mil is like for us $100. He identifies the target, gets it, and if this guy does not succeed very quickly moves on to the next. That increases the probability of success. Basically the opposite of Woody. I also would not be surprised if he told his coach to try out some younger guys at the end of 2023 season, so that he ensures he gets that top 3 pick for a QB.
Yep and I can already see Glenn getting fired halfway through next season if this continues. Just get rid of him now. The fact that this is the likely outcome and everyone is already discussing it means it's pretty much over for him.
Glenn sold this bullshit narrative that large ships take a while to turn, No they don't. Look at NE, Chicago, and Jax. That's 3 examples right there of the teams that were right there with you last year. Only retard Woody cannot see these examples even if they slapped him right in his ugly mug. He is a billionaire who is not going live forever., who cares if you are already paying these coaches. Try something else. I bet you there won't be a long line to get AG after you dump him, just like there wasn't one for Mayo. Kraft's approach is correct. It should be viewed year by year. When some rookie comes in and makes things worse, performs historically bad, you fire him and move on to someone else. It's not that complicated.
Right! And isn’t that EXACTLY what Woody is? You can ALWAYS bet that if there is a WRONG decision to be made, Woody WILL make it
