Right, the advancements in medicine since then are one thing, plus Culpepper had significant miles on him at that point, plus was a chubby bulky guy. So while Teddy's was essentially worse, he has some other things going for him. So we'll see what happens!
Remember the Robin Ventura injury? That was bad. People fainted in the stands. It sounds similar and he came back, but obviously his was an ankle, and Tedy's the knee so it was much worse. I saw the Ventura injury, I would never want to look at Tedy's injury. Whew
If Teddy starts, leads the team to the playoffs, then the Jets should re-sign him long term imo. If they have to trade the rookie QB after a year or two, so be it. They could showcase him in preseason and quite possibly recoup one of their 2nd round picks, and maybe even get a 1st for him. I don't see that there's that much potential for conflict. In all likelihood, Teddy won't even be here this year. If Bowles goes with his norm, McCown will start in the regular season anyway, and Teddy won't even see the field unless McCown gets hurt. Whatever the case, it's a LOT less risky imo than relying on Teddy after the injury and his not playing for two years. No way the Jets draft Barkley. You don't give up all that draft capital for a RB. That would be the worst possible thing they could do other than take Nelson or Fitzpatrick.
Bridgewater's a long shot, at best, to ever become a solid NFL QB again. I've followed the kid since his days in HS in Miami. The one thing I always liked about him is he's a winner and a leader. Always has been. Even if he never pans out for us which is the most likely scenario, his leadership skills could rub off on the other QB's in the room, especially the one we draft at 3.
I recently saw tape of all of TBs 15+ throws. It was pretty ugly. Maybe it wasnt all on him but for sure some of it at least had to be. So while he appears to have short/intermediate range accuracy I havent seen any evidence of a vertical game at all.
