It doesn’t have to be Taylor but it could be Taylor or someone like Taylor for HC and pair him with a grizzled vet DC with HCing experience. I’d sign for the Taylor bros with Gregg Williams right now.
You may be right about coming across like a drama queen. I never thought about it that way, was just venting the only place I have to vent where other posters can understand and commiserate. I'm definitely not a drama queen in real life. If it comes to the point I quit my fandom, it won't matter to me what happens with the team. The franchise could fold or they could win 10 straight SBs and I wouldn't care, it would be too late. They would be dead to me.
If they do go with yet another novice HC, then imo it's a MUST that an experienced DC and STs Coordinator be hired. The problem is that the Taylors haven't been around long enough to know that many coaches in the league and perhaps no experienced DC or STs Coordinator would want to work for/with them. I think Bowles made that mistake when he was hired. He did hire an experienced OC, which was good, but he made the mistake of hiring a really old one who was close to retirement. He hired his best friend as DC. I understand why he did it both from the perspective of wanting to give his best friend a shot, as well as his wanting the D to follow his scheme/design, but it has been a big mistake that has hurt him.
A dark horse name to watch out for is Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, says Connor Rogers: “Campbell rebuilt Toledo and made them a winning program. Then he goes to Iowa State and rebuilt them into a winning program. He’s more than just a really good offensive coach and he has a staff that can coach defense. “Last year, they were tops in fewest turnovers surrendered, fewest penalties, fewest fumbles surrendered, that’s a well disciplined and coached football team and he’s creative on the offensive side of things. He’s not even 40 years old yet and he’s a good young leader. This is the unconventional route that the Jets finally need to go.”
There's more to being a HC than developing a QB. Odds are you hire the Taylors, they're going to be completely overwhelmed and make Bowles's game management skills look good. Maybe these guys really are special (though I think McVay and Pederson are the ones responsible for the Rams and Eagles success), but the only way to know is to have a knowledgeable football person interview them, which rules out the Jets brass. If you want to take a risk, try Riley or Campbell, not the Taylors.
I just totally disagree with the premise that you need to be “experienced” to have good management skills with regards to an NFL Head Coach....There are plenty of coordinators who were waiting forever for their turn only to look like complete buffoons as head coaches It’s like the certain traits with QBs that are needed to succeed in the NFL...for the most part you either have the aptitude or you don’t to succeed at the highest level I don’t know if these guys are any better as candidates than some of the more experienced guys, but I would never discount them from the start
I like the idea behind it. Two young guys, new way of thinking, + young qb taking some risks=exciting football. We always look better on paper than we end up and there’s always a spark during the last few seasons that gets snuffed out some point around this time. I’m inclined to think there’s something not there from the CS that causes us to lose it. We aren’t getting Harbaugh....so why not?
The jets Need to Fire macc & bowles & Hire a Head of Football Operations... let him hire the GM & both of them decide on a HC.
Maybe I do or maybe I don't..or maybe I sit on the fence some more I'll have to decide that then..so what? See how you feel after decades of this..
I didn’t mean for it to come across as just taking a shot at you. I’ve seen that a lot over the years of my time here and just spoke on it in this thread mostly because I think that would be a strange reason for someone to quit their fandom. I know there have been a ton of reasons over the years for someone to have quit caring about the Jets, hiring a new HC would be very low down on the list as far as I’m concerned. We just have a difference of opinion on the direction the Jets should take going forward. I know you’ve said experience is a top factor for you while for me innovation would be the top factor. I don’t know if Zac Taylor is that guy but if he was interviewed and was then hired I’d be pretty excited about the possibility of it working out. Really the only guy I’d prefer over one of these young innovative offensive minds is Jim Harbaugh but I don’t see him as being a realistic possibility. As far as your last paragraph, I find that hard to believe that someone that’s been a Jets fan for as long as you have been wouldn’t be right back to rooting as hard as possible if things start to look up for them.
And I will continue to not care which way you decide, just as I’m sure most others would feel the same way. I’ve been a Jets fan for decades, in fact i am squarely in the worst age group to be a Jets fan. I’ve become desensitized of Jets failure. My personality traits though always hope for the best but expect the worst.
Plenty of experienced coordinators failing only means experience isn't sufficient for success. Not that experience isn't necessary for success. Sure, if you have a coaching prodigy, he can get up to speed quicker, but that's someone like McVay who was an OC for a couple years. Not a guy who's only been a position coach who also wants his brother, who's only been a position coach for one year, to be his OC. And what makes these guys special anyway? They just got to LA and Philly, so neither one of them is responsible for Goff or Wentz.
They are nobodies..just flavor of the month But I get the interest...after being dumped on by this ownership we are all desperate for answers and quick fixes
Maybe he didn't say it, but he sure tweeted it... He also tweeted during the draft while the Browns were on the clock at 1 that his sources with the Browns FO just confirmed to him Darnold is the pick, he quickly deleted the tweet when Mayfield was announced. I wouldn't get to worked up over what a Broncos beat writer has to say about the Jets FOs plans. I'd bet they have no idea what direction they are going. Have to hire casserly and the other clowns to advise them first.
I’ve liked what I’ve read about them but what makes anyone so special? We’re all just guessing for the most part when it comes to assistants or college coaches Zac Taylor was a QB at Nebraska and has been an assistant in the NFL for 6 years now...He’s been an OC in atleast some role according to wiki for the Dolphins and Bengals and is now working on the offensive side under a prodigy in McVay which can only help Press Taylor has been an offensive assistant for the Eagles since 2013 who has worked his way up to QB coach...the natural progression for him would be OC which I assume he would be for his brother It would be foolish to discount them or anyone because they weren’t coordinators for enough time...I have no idea who the best choice would be but why not give them an interview?
Do the Jets need an experienced head coach w. a proven track record? In the worst of ways.. The problem is...we just fell victim to the "Good ole boy network"..do we really want to double dip? Bowles might be ultra conservative & an extreme case...but I worry that the team wont get the radical changes it needs offensively in terms of scheme, philosophy, prototype & personnel w.o taking a chance on one of these younger minds.
We're all just guessing, but that doesn't mean you choose fringe prospects over top ones. And why not give him an interview? Because the people giving the interview would be Mac and Chris Johnson, and there's no reason to believe they'd make the right decision (as opposed to if say Dorsey was in charge). Best case is the Jets get a Harbaugh who can save them from themselves.
Meh. Better than Bowles but these moves for unproven HCs would preserve Macc’s unwarranted seniority. I still vote to clear house for an experienced HC otherwise we’ll be rolling out the immature HC “it’s a learning experience” excuses next year when we’re shut out by the Raiders in Week 12.
