I've heard that shit for 40 years. This team better come out clicking on all cylinders on opening day, or Rexy better get his knife and fork ready for all the crow he is going to have to eat. I'm tired of promises. I want results.
This isn't the pussy SOJs that you've seen for the past 40 years. The culture has changed. No one is scared anymore. The fact that I think this team will be fine is because I'm not scared about stupid fucking preseason games, in which Sanchez has completed 64.5% of his passes. Don't bitch at someone who is a part of the new Jets. Not that sorry shit I've heard about before I was born. I'm a young Jet fan, which makes me the model for what Rex wants: In your face, fuck you, I'm going to bury your team's sorry ass for 4 quarters. With the talent on this team, they will be fine. Its time to kick ass and hurt people. Its time to be feared in the same manner of the Steelers, Ravens, Pats, Colts, and now Saints. Because when the Jets play at their best, they can beat anyone playing at their best. They don't care who they are playing they are going to beat the fuck out of them.... let's go get it.
I think the team is fine as long as it doesn't try to transform into some pass first offense. We need to continue to bring Sanchez along slowly. Yeah he looked great in the playoffs but he threw 12 TD's and 20 + Int's last season and he barely threw the ball. Stick to the run and we'll be fine. As for the defense. I was so looking forward to a revis, cromartie, wilson secondary to go up against Peyton, Brady, Favre..etc. Man that would have been fun but you know what we still have a good D and Rex knows his defense and will make it work.
SWEET... I wish YOU the best. I really do.... Oldtimers need a lot more than talk to wash away 40 years of mediocrity to Stink..... This season is teetering already IMO....
Has anyone ever done an anlysis of what is a good pass first vs run first QB stats? I'm thinking that a QB on a run first team should and will always have crappier stats: 1. The o-line is built and trained for the fun not for pass blocking 2. The times when run-first teams have to pass are usually 3rd and long which is when QBs get lit up. 3. The recievers on a run-first team usually suck Just a thought
The season isn't teetering yet unless you consider Super Bowl or no Super Bowl to be the only criteria for that status. The Jets have one major injury in Pace and one suspension in Holmes. They have every spot on the depth chart at least reasonably manned, with some questions at LG, dime and ROLB. Last season they had holes at WR and ROLB heading into the season. This year they have Cotchery and Edwards with Holmes coming back game 4 and Westerman and Taylor to cover for Pace until he returns. Injuries may mount, causing real problems, but that's football in a nutshell and the Jets are no worse off than anybody else at this point. Looking at this team right now I see 11-5 as a pretty solid landing spot if they stay healthy. A little bad luck with injuries and they drop to 7-9. If everything breaks right they go 13-3. If that's teetering then I've been waiting all my life to see a Jet's team teeter.
They are a Gambling Defense - Revis helped mask that... Watching the preseason tapes I see Cromartie looking very very beatable by QB's that just couldn't do it - Brady, Manning and the best QB's in the league will eat that apart. So, to me, this team is A LOT worse that the team that already couldn't beat the Colts. At this point the team has taken a step back and is incredibly thin... I thought we could go 0-3 before the Revis hold out and everything else.... I just hope Rex Ryan is prepared for the #### Storm 0-3 could bring. I guess the biggest reason I feel like I ate a #### sandwich is Darrelle Revis - I really HATE the man and his agents... I get sick when I see his picture. It just sucks that for jets fans we waited so long for the potential of a team like this and Neil Freaking Schwartz IMO is not doing the best for his client and just taking a Giant #### on all jets fans.... Really bringing me down about a sport that I've loved for so long. We naila few drafts and get some good talent just for THIS???? Back in the Day, I was pretty much an original Darksider.... I'm looking to dig out the old robe again. I'm bracing for a storm... Anything else positive would just help my Irritable Bowel Syndrome at this point.
I think depth is a large problem with this team, I don't see the depth chart being reasonably manned at all. The D backfield, and DC in particular. In order for Ryan's defense to work, you have to have veru good cover corners that can play the WR tight but still recover if the pass rush doesn't get pressure. Ducasse is a project, Woody has at times been awful. Hopefully Slauson continues his slow improvemnt, but... I also think we are thin at LB. Now we have to rely on an aging Taylor to play full time on the outside. I don't like what sits behind Harris and Scott. It's not going to be pretty if Sanchez throws another 20 piks and the offense can't score. So many thought SOJ was dead after Mangini's first year. Like Jet Blue, I've been through it for so long, it's near impossible to not be skeptical. Revis is really ******* this team and it's fans over. Just when you think the promised land is over the next hill... I'm still hopeful, but at times the dark side wins.
Rex is Rex, people who don't like that need to find another team and stop bitching. Rex talked a lot leading up the the season and the Pats game last year with exactly 0 wins under his belt, so you think a trip to the AFC Championship game is going to change him now? Most teams think they're going to win it all in August, we have one of the few coaches who isn't totally full of shit and not afraid of having expectations. Embrace that instead of the incessant bitching or go away.
From this fan's perspective, my mantra for this season is "Expect nothing - Appreciate Everything." I'm thrilled we have a really good team, but there is too much football to be played to expect a Super Bowl ring. Let's let the season play out and enjoy whatever ride we get taken on. From the team's perpective, I want the Jets to be confident. I love that they are cocky and have a swagger. They should be setting the bar high and not settling for mediocrity. Go out and kick some ass!
as we learnt from last year..its not how we start....its how we FINISH as long as were .500 going into second half of the season....its all about heating up into the last 1/2.
I LOVE Rex.. Wouldn't trade him for any coach in the NFL right now... I LOVE the brash Talk..... But, I also understand that the brash talk is great for him and the way he motivates the team but, from where I sit I also reserve the right to sit back and give my own analysis without buying 100% of what Rex is selling to his players....
Who is bitching? Expressing concerns isn't bitching, it's taking a step back while the lemmings are jumping off the cliff. I hate this sort of shit... telling people where to go. It just just worse and worse on this f'n message board. I've been a Jets fan for 45 years, I'm not going anywhere, and I'll damned well express my opinions. Have a different take on things around here and some assholes try to run you out of town. Not directed at you seafood, but why tell someone to go away just because they don't agree? Just because their sunglasses are a different color? Please note: There were no personal attacks or insults in this post, but I am sure there will be some to follow. That's what I expect around here. The worst offenders get ignored by the mods. Tony, come back.
I just mean for their own good, it doesn't matter to me who comes here and what they say. But if you're fed up with 40 years or whatever of mediocrity, now that we finally have a guy who isn't afraid to aim to be great and say it for the first time since Namath, embrace it. If daring to be a contender and believing it makes them queasy maybe they should come back when we get another Eric Mangini that doesn't scare them so much with expectations, for their own good.
What other criteria do you have besides this to determine if a season is successful or not? "The season isn't teetering yet unless you consider Super Bowl or no Super Bowl to be the only criteria for that status" Is there any other criteria?
Also how many solid bowel movements you had during that season. Nearly as important as wins and losses.
I love Rex's attitude but now is the time for him to back up the ish he talks. Revis and Pace out is a big deal and Sanchez's talent might not be as good as his ambition.
How do you suggest he backs up the "ish" he is talking at this very moment? Set up a fight with Belichick this afternoon? The regular season is over a week away. No one can back up their "ish" at this point. By the way, Rex isn't talking shit, he's just saying what everyone else is thinking. Perhaps he should not try to win a Super Bowl because there are just too many people competing for it and it would be rude to butt ourselves in to that crowd.
Our offense has looked like Ish. It starts with him fixing the problems before the season starts not on the fly once the real games begin.
