Haven't heard anyone mention him yet so props to Bilal Powell for looking spry in his limited carries. He had a nice run where he made a couple of decent jukes and hurdled a tackler. Richardson with his fumble was underwhelming. Lets hope Bilal and Ivory can stay healthy.
I reckon in his first game he is nervous as, and so he's throwing fast balls because he thinks they'll less likely be intercepted.
Spinning at 9-7 would be great if it gave Petty another year to maybe step up and gave the Jets another draft to look at QB's in. None of the guys likely to be in next year's draft are no-brainer top 3 picks. By now we'd know if a Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck was in the 2016 draft and there isn't one of those guys available. So going 2-14 just to get a shot at a Jameis Winston level prospect is the the alternative to going 9-7 and having a restorative season for the team and the fan base. I'd much rather do the latter at this point. 2017 or 2018, those are years the Jets may do the 2-14 thing if none of the QB's on the roster works out. There's a much better chance a great QB will be sitting there for us if that's the case.
I agree with you there, though mild success with Fitz also means we will have no better idea whether Geno can become a viable Qb or not than we did before this last draft. Fitz is fine but he's no longterm answer. I'd rather let Geno start after he heals even if we are 4-2 with Fitz, just to see what we have. We're not contending this year either way, save some drastic turn of luck or player development.
I still absolutely despise Jeff Cumberland. The fact that we gave him a 3 year extension for below average to average play still boggles my mind. Petty looked decent enough. He didn't look comfortable at all and rightfully so considering the line didnt give him much room to breathe. A lot of short throws that weren't enough to move the chains and when the passes were more than 7 yards, they were dropped or just not in the right spot. My god, so many drops. Ill be honest, I didnt pay much attention to the defense. I was way to invested in the offense because I think realistically when the season starts, the defense wont be a problem. These guys just put on the pads not too long ago. I know the defense is capable of much more and these big gains wont happen during the regular season. Mauldin has so much fire, hes definitely going to be something special. It was nice to see McDougle finally getting some playing time. He hasnt seen the field in a long time so I give him a pass. Powell had a nice run. Him and Ivory continue to be scrappy fighters and you gotta love their tenacity. Stacy looked pretty good too. I have to give them all the benefit of the doubt since this is game 1. When the 1's start to struggle is when I will begin to panic.
I heard we sucked and Abdullah looked great. Not surprised. Cardale Jones came off the bench and won a national championship. He balled out against the best teams in the country. If he follows that up with a great year then he is a can't miss QB.
If the Jets are (4-2) and go back to Geno, I may lose my mind. I have news for you axel: Geno is done. This isn't rocket science.
My thoughts are pretty similar to everyone else's. -Ivory and Powell looked great. Richardson fumbled and likely loses #3 spot to Stacy who looked good. -Fitzpatrick did fine. -Petty's future looks bright, played it safe tonight. -defense was vanilla and will improve.
Marcus williams and Bilal powel were bright spots that caught my eye..pryor still needs to shape up these shitty angles hes taking
Petty has a future, the kid has it you can just tell, I really hope he hits his potential. The game was awful, defense was bad and recievers decided that catching the ball wasn't a cool thing to do.....let see how gake 2 goes.
The thing that stood out to me was how awful Cromartie was. He looked like he was coasting and there was zero hustle or effort. And he just looks so awkward and stiff when receivers put a move on him.
Game was tough to watch but it is far too early to panic. I really like Cromartie and think he will be good this year but he has had some bad practices and did not seem prepared for this game. I felt bad for Bryce Petty when they announced his offensive line without any of the five starters (not even Colon).
I was worried about him BEFORE he got hurt. Doesn't seem to be making the big progress in his second year I was hoping for
Mo was sorely missed last night; but its preseason. Mauldin is going to be a really good player, he's relentless and while he made some mistakes, he was able to get to the QB. Clean those up buddy and he will be one of our best pass-rushers we've seen in sometime.
If we are going to just wait for the next Luck or Manning to come around, then we are never going to win. Find the QB that has a good IQ, good leadership qualities, and has the skill-sets to translate to the next level and I think we can be OK. Jets don't need a Luck or Manning to win SBs.
Yes the whole game was meh. Aside from locker room fiasco there were positives and negatives. Mac gave us some good players that had better pan out. Petty looked ok. How this CS does going forward is ultimately important. I still like the Belicheat/Parcells style: Tell your players they all can be replaced if they dont show improvement.
there was zero effort out of the defense. i know its game one, they are running vanilla base packages only, and dont want to get hurt, but they looked like they had zero desire to even be on the field. hopefully its just a byproduct of a weird week, but that was the only true red flag i saw last night.
Was just about to post that. He looks like he's lost weight and looked much quicker and shiftier than he has since he was drafted by the Jets, not just a down hill runner but making a cut and a second cut. I've never been a huge fan of his game but he literally-to me-looked like a different player. When I saw his number and name I was confused because he looked a lot smaller- in a good way. _
