I missed this one but I'm happy to see the offense is still alive. How Buchholz does tomorrow is is huge- his peripherals last start sucked but he got very good results against a lineup that tears some pitchers to shreds. If he can build on that, and actually step up and be a legitimate number three down the stretch good things will happen.
No way. Lowell isn't an everyday 3B right now. Not only is it an unnecessary risk of him hurting his hip, his range is basically zero. On top of that, Varitek and Ortiz are basically equals at the plate at this point, but Varitek provides something defensively. Lowell at DH with Varitek behind the plate provides the best lineup for this team both on offense AND defense.
Alright good points. Varitek is pretty bad though. I thought Ortiz was out of his funk but apparently it was only for a couple weeks.
Since the all star break: David Oritz: .198 /258/ .346 3 home runs Jason Varitek 164 /.271 / .230, No Home runs and only 2 runs scored Varitek brings defensive help at a position where most guys suck hitting anyways. Ortiz's only job is to hit, he's at a position where people normally hit, and he fucking sucks at hitting now. It might be awkward but he needs to be benched, and he doesn't belong on the roster next year. He's done.
Calm down sir, it was a joke. Another very good start from Buchholz today, too bad they went back to not hitting. I'll give a little bit of a pass because Verlander is fucking nasty, but still.
Tip the cap to Verlander, we've run into some good pitching lately, and the clutch hitting has settled back into non-existent. A lack of support has happened to both Buchholz and Lester lately, hopefully that changes tomorrow.
should dustin PH for ortiz? lose defense that way if the awesome happens, but I don't think francona has the balls to do that anyway.
