Nice pull. Who didn’t dig that sweet Barbara Gordon up-do. Five buck says statjeff is with me on this. And, since you sent me down Interweb Memory Lane, TIL also that Yvonne Craig shot two movies with Elvis and “dated him briefly during filming”. Which just means they were banging in his trailer between shoots, but it’s still worth listing on a resume.
I had such a crush on them ( NOT MORT!!!) when I was a kid. Loved those skintight body suits! Growllll!!!!
Today I learned the tuberous bushcricket has testes that are on average 14% of their body weight, equivalent of a 200 lb man with 28 lb testicles.
Today I learned that Steven Borden, current wrestler and son of Sting, tried out at TE for the Jets in 2015.
Today I learned about The Palace of Depression in Vineland, NJ. It was built by former Alaskan gold miner, George Daynor, who lost everything in the Great Crash of 1929. It opened on Christmas Day in 1932. Daynor built The Palace of Depression on four acres of land at a total cost of four U S. Dollars near the NJ Pine Barrens out of found objects and junk. He was an eccentric snake oil salesman, and charged a fee of 25 cents per person for a tour of 'The Strangest House in the World'. He eked out a better than decent living from it for a number of years. He also made false claims that he was 'the most photographed man in the world'. So here's the fun part. His line of shit was that he had a divine vision. Visions plural. A guardian angel instructed him to "go to New Jersey" to build The Palace of Depression as a testament and a shield against depression . . . from The Great Depression. Additionally, it offered all encompassing relief from the despair that money brings when you lose it, all while cashing in on other people's misery. What a country! Oh, and he also claimed that The Palace was a general cure all 'for the affliction of melancholy'. George Daynor, a man incidentally way ahead of his time, that anti-depressants are complete and utter poison that directly cause far more suicides than they prevent, how 'bout that?! George Daynor also spent a year in jail for giving false information to the FBI about the kidnapping (and subsequent murder) of newborn Peter Weinberger of Westbury, NY. He lied that he had seen the kidnappers on his property under false pretenses (reward $). There was also the disappearance of 3 year old William Ebeneezer Jones III, also of Vineland, NJ, in 1962, who was rumored to have been abducted near "The Palace". The property was dug up, but the boy's body was not found. The Jones case is also the longest running missing child case in the state of NJ. George Daynor died penniless (SURPRISE!) at 104 years old in 1964. The Palace of Depression was vandalized and burned to the ground in 1969. It is currently in the process of being resurrected and restored to its former glory and to its original purpose: a tourist attraction full of good ole American bullshit! Edit: A word.
