Time to go steal Zach Miller from the Raiders. I still don't get why he won't even entertain other teams.
Fuck Pennington light, didn't want him anyway. But once again the "players want to play for Rex" mystique seems to be fading.
Zach Miller is still out there i have no idea y he would still want to go back to the Raiders, their in no position to sign him since there still trying to work out a deal to resign Wimbley. Now is the time to make another splash.
He grew up in Arizona and played at Arizona St., so this is just likely him wanting to go home before his career ends.
The"players want to play for Rex" thing has all been media hype, nothing else. Players will play where they get the most money, that will never change.
That's an outstanding point especially considering that Holmes took less money to stay with the Jets.
its not media hype. That was the mood since Rex got here and players from College and some in NFL saying how they would like to play for Rex. But yeah, money is everything it seems.
Another situation,, Rex picks him up at the airport,,, gonna rely on the Rex charm to lure the guy and the guy bolts for another team.
If the average career in your field is 3.5 years and you have no marketable skills outside of it, giving up any amount of money to work under a really nice supervisor is irresponsible. The "players wanna play for Rex" thing does exist, and might be extremely valuable as a tie-breaker in negotiations, but Rex won't be paying the rent during the player's half-century of retirement/attempts at retraining. Also, I have to say I love seeing all these guys turn us down. It means Tanny is low-balling a lot of people who'd be nice pick-ups, but whom we could live without. The only guy they were a little desperate to get was Santonio, but if they overpaid it wasn't by much. We probably still have a lot of Aso's spurned dowry left to spend (though who really understands this new cap), and our FO seems to be happy to build depth, wait for guys to come in at the right price, get cut from other teams, maybe pursue a trade. That's fine with me.
It should change to, "Players would like to play for Rex, but 95% won't do it for less money." Hey, you can't blame them.
