I just downloaded the PODcast. Trent says that he likes our current HC staff & respects them but "...they never had their hands on developing a big time young quarterback..." I know Schotty worked with Brees and Rivers a bit - but was he with Brees enough to qualify him to be the one that "developed" Brees into what he is today? Trent may be wrong on that specific point. Besides - if Schotty stays on at OC, he won't have the time to dedicate himself to MS like a position coach would.
people dont realize that namath's stats compared to other hall of fame qb's was straight garbage, namath got into the hall of fame based on one game. i dont want him teaching mark anything about qbing. these are namaths stats Career Stats TD-INT 173-220 Yards 27,663 QB Rating 65.5 we just idiolize namath becos he brought our lone sb win, he wasnt that good at all.
Namath played in a different era with no west coast offense. You cannot compare his stats to todays QBs and come to a reasonable conclusion. # 4? AFL All-Star selection (1965, 1967, 1968, 1969) # 1x Pro Bowl selection (1972) # 3? First-team All-AFL selection (1967, 1968, 1969) # 1x All-Pro selection (1972) # 1? Second-team All-AFL (1966) # American Football League Champion (1968) # Super Bowl Champion (III) # AFL All-Time Team # 2? AFL MVP (1968, 1969) # 2? UPI AFL Player of the Year (1968, 1969) # Bronze Medallion (New York City award) (1969) # 1974 NFL Comeback Player of the Year He also led the league in passing yards a few times.
I agree, +1 Trash talking one of the few Jet icons should be a bann-able offense- Ban the crap out of him, ban him so hard he gets arthritis in his knees.
yeah ban me because i speak the truth, to me the only jet icon is CURTIS MARTIN. do yall realize that joe was 51th all time Td's, 18th in interception, 177th in passer rating and in the 40's in yards (jake plummer and brad Johnson have better yardage than him). i hate when people say "lets not annoint Sanchez as the next Namath", i usually say "please lets not, because Joe Namath was an average player who got into the hall of fame because he made a guarantee"
Obviously you're not getting banned for having a different opinion, but did you read my reply to your post? You have to compare him to his peers in his time. He was one of the best of his time. You cannot compare him to modern day QB's. It's a different game now.
whiteshoe, during Namath's time you had Sunny Jurgensen throwing 20+ tds almost yearly. so you cannot use the "different era" excuse. while Namath was throwing 15 tds (he only threw 20 tds once and he also threw 28 ints that same year) Sunny and Unitas and Starr were scoring 20+ tds.
1966 Namath #1 in Yards and Completions 1967 Namath #1 in Yards and Completions, #2 in TDs First ever 4000 yard passer 1968 #3 in Completions and Yards 1969 #2 in Completions, yards and TDs 1972 #1 in Yards, #2 in TDs Look at all his probowl appearances too. Clearly he was one of the best of his time.
Gary Kubiak if he gets fired. He did wonders with Steve Young and John Elway. Some will argue that he ruined David Carr though.
Dom Capers was David Carr's coach for the first four seasons of his career. Carr failed as a franchise quarterback because the Texans had absolutely no offensive line.
Schottenheimer was Drew Brees' QB coach for four or five years in San Diego, so I think Dilfer missed the mark on that one.
This is where I believe Callahan would excel. My desire for him to get the reigns has less to do with the fact that I think he is an offensive genius, as it does with the fact that his philosophy fits this team...along with the obvious continuity that promoting from within brings.
Fuck this Schotty gets Brees bullshit. His name is Cam Cameron, and he's developed Brees, Rivers, and Flacco.
I agree, Hackett was very much under appreciated for the good stuff he did. Hackett IMO also was handcuffed by Pennington's arm.
