Well said...In addition to a pass rusher, which I agree is our #1 need, we need to add in a solid/healthy CB. With the way Sanchez has matured, we should be able to run a more balanced offensive attack which will take some of the wear and tear off the RB's and give our defense a little more time off the field.
I dont think they let sanchez leave it all on the field.. they kind of scaled him back which was the original plan but once you know your down in the playoffs you have to just say fuck it if he is going to get intercepted then so be it lets let him loose and start throwing more.. Instead we tried to stick to a ground game without Greene which meant the defense is not going to respect TJ's running game
Yeah, same here. I have been pleasantly surprised by the overall LACK of negativity on this board following this loss. I think we all recognize how young this team is and how bright the future APPEARS to be. We had a great year and made it to the AFC Championship game . . . All while breaking in a rookie quarterback and a rookie head coach. I'm excited and proud to be a Jets fan.
I am extremely excited and optimistic about next year. I am upset but not traumatized by the loss although I feel if we went to the SB--we would have won it. We held tough against not one of the best but THE BEST QB in the game today. Sanchez had a phenomenal game. What this rookie HC and rookie QB learned in this postseason is invaluable to their careers. We can only get better. At this point, I'm looking forward to a good off-season and a good draft. I can't wait till September...
If I were to draw parallels between this loss and the one in 1998, I'd use "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" 1998: Getting the $1,000,000 question wrong and walking away with $32,000. 2009: Getting the $250,000 question wrong and walking away with $32,000. It hurts, yeah, but there's hope for our future.
It's disappointing being that close to the superbowl but the truth is we do have a phenomenal team that's only going to get better. We have a franchise QB who turned out to be awesome and will continue to get better, and we have a franchise HC (if there is such a thing) who we all love. We'll be disappointed for a bit, but overall we have a lot of positives to look forward to. This is the DECADE OF THE JETS!
That's what some people here do not get. You really don't get many chances like this. Be up 11 with best defense in the League out there and your QB playing really well in AFC title game. Again, let time it happened similar to that was 11 years ago. Now everyone is acting like we are lock for AFC title game next year. Parcells once said, you don't just pick up where you left off. It's a whole new race next year. And there will be many good horses in that race, not just Jets. I don't think we got too many bad calls, but your other points are valid. To shut others though, don't you think our own head coach needs to shut up first? He talks more than anyone, and let's be honest, he didn't back up his talk. Which means in other words, for all the great talk, he was full of shit. That's why although it was entertaining, I wish he shut the fuck up sometimes. I don't remember Belichik, Dungy, and Pitts coaches predicting SB ring, yet they have one. Talk is cheap. I think Rex will be better off to tone it down a little.
I think you're going to be disappointed in the Jets for a while then. Rex will not tone it down. He has been talking like he did this year for his entire career and I don't anticipate that losing in the AFC Championship game is going to disabuse his notion that his style contributes to success. I will also add that being one of the last four teams playing this year and putting up a decent fight is not an indication that Ryan or the Jets are full of shit.
I hear both side of the coin: Granted all that, I believe a team goes only as far as the quarterback goes. So let me pose this question to you. If by chance we go to Divisional round next year and the ball bounces the other way with the Chargers or Ravens or some other team getting the win, would you consider that a disappointing season? I for one would not. I want the Jets to be an SB contender and winner but having a perennial playoff team isn't so bad either. (Although thoughts of the Bills 4 SB trips come to mind)
