The writer fails to take in to account that Sanchez wasn't cut until 2 possible trade partners for him had vanished, the most prominent of which was Oakland. The Dominoes fell, First the Texans traded Schaub and his 37 Million dollar contract (which like Sanchez they could just cut him next year and be free and clear) and signed Fitzpatrick. The Jets then signed vick and cut Sanchez almost immediately afterwards. It's clear they were hoping to trade Sanchez to the Raiders and it's probable there had been talks based on the timing of things.
The really interesting thing is the Raiders pulled the trigger just 2 days or so before they could have had Sanchez for relative Pennies to the 10.5 Million or so due Schaub this year.

Football is a business, the Jets had paid over 50 million to Sanchez over the 5 years he was with the team, it's just good business sense to try to obtain some value rather than nothing. It's part of the territory that comes along with multi million dollar contracts. No need to feel sorry for Sanchez, He's set for life and he will get another job on another team. But it is telling that the Raiders choose to trade a 6th rounder AND take on a 37 million dollar contract (10.5 million in 2014) vs waiting 3 days and signing Sanchez for 4-6 million (or less) and not losing a draft pick.

After the butt fumble, mark should just STFU and get out of town.

Not really telling at all. They know Schaub can start day 1 and but for last year was thought of as a quality QB.

Sanchez is coming off major shoulder surgery, hasn't played in a year and was awful in 2012.

No one can gamble on Sanchez even being healthy enough to play this year much less start.

I'm not shocked by the Raiders move at all.

Shocked no. It actually goes back to the point you made here and in another thread in that Sanchez most likely wasn't going to walk in to a starters job this year whether he was released 2 months ago or tomorrow. The only surprising part was that the Raiders knew Sanchez and Schaub would both be cut eventually and I'm pretty sure they made the decision they made because A) Schaub for his career is somewhere around 64% completion rate with 130 TD's to 84 picks. Not that the stats mean anything in and of themselves but over his career, with the exception of last year, he's been very good at taking care of the ball relative to the points put on the board, where as Sanchez has had 1 year where he took care of the ball and 3 where he was a turnover machine. That more than anything else is what has hurt, and is hurting, his value to teams.

So between the Surgery and his inconsistency over his career it is no surprise really, at least not to anyone really paying attention. That said he will get another job, I wish him well (though I honestly don't expect him to do well) and we'll see what the future holds for him...

The writer thinks the Jets organization is bad. Watch when the Pats cut Wilfolk; FA will be over and all the money dried up. That's the way they do business and how many articles are there on those shenanigans? Good Luck Marc really rooted for you the first 2 years. But.......

Maybe Idzik held onto Sanchez because there are teams Idzik didn't want Sanchez ending up on.

Has anyone compared our 2014 sch to teams looking for a QB?

Coming to terms with the fact that I will never see Sanchez as a NY Jet ever again is not easy.

Goes to show how bad the Jets have been since you've been watching them if you long for Sanchez.

Look, I loved the success we reached when he was the QB, but you are a fool if you think we reached those heights due to him. Richard Todd blew, and if he had even played a half decent game he's had gotten the Jets to the Super Bowl.

He did get the Jets to the AFC Championship game. Then he threw 5 picks to the Fins on that horrible field in Miami in what turned out to be a very tight loss. That was one of the worst experiences I had as a Jet fan because the Fins offense was woeful with their QB trying to give the game away also and we just kept handing them back the ball. We finally got put away when A.J Duhe picked off Todd and ran it in for a TD to make it 14-0. I hated the Fins going into that game but nothing like the way I've felt about them ever since.

Watering down that field was a low-life scummy thing to do and whatever respect I had for Shula vanished that day.

His life is set - Sanchez can thank the Jets for that.

That said, Jets fucked him squarely up in his ass. Deny that, and I'll rip you a new one. Whether he sucks or not does not matter. Jets' treatment of Sanchez, as an organization, was a fucking disgrace to put it very, VERY lightly.

P.S. Can'o'Lardo is a fucking disgrace of a writer. I've seen more worthy pile of shit than what he calls 'articles.'

I supported Sanchez, but it's time to move on. Regarding how he got "screwed", any NFL team with interest had to know he was getting cut - no matter what day it actually happened. Hell, we all knew it. If they wanted him, they would have waited for him and not traded or signed another QB.

The other thing everyone has to remember, is that he's coming off shoulder surgery. He's damaged goods now, to some extent. Regardless of the circumstances that caused it.

You and me both. The Jets had a chance due to our team speed that day. That being said, Todd pulled one of the all-time chokes with his 5 pick game.

    It still hurts.

The Jets owe Mark Sanchez nothing.

Sanchez contract was written with a mar. 25th roster bonus. The Jets absolutely should not have cut him/released him until they got a backup. In fact I would say it would be really bad management if they did do that.
    ---------------------------------------------------

Sanchez should have got an earlier roster bonus date negotiated into his contract.

I wish I could be paid undeserved multi-millions of $$$ and be treated the same way. Such a tough life Sanchez had for 5 years. Also it's just a matter of time before he starts taking shots at the Jets organization.

Where do you guys get this idea that Sanchez beat out Geno last preseason? I watch every game and press conference and the like and I never saw the Jets announce that Mark had won the OPEN COMPETITION. Its assumed by people who have no authority that Sanchez won, but thats like me saying that Tebow beat out Mark...lol my opinion wouldnt be worth the paper I wrote it on because im not in the FO and neither are the media or the posters here.
