I was going to use Jones and Wilson as examples of him not being entirely to blame "recently". Still wouldn't matter at that point since the guy should have been shown the door years ago. No amount of what if's can change the fact this guy traded a first for Doug Jolley and the farm for Robertson. There was other stuff involved with the Jolley trade but that one always bothered me.
so to sum up, bradway was justly scapegoated. of course he probably has an eye for talent, you don't get to the top by not being good as you climb up, he just wasn't a good g.m. or scout director. i would take him as a scout though
By 2003, the guy almost completely dismantled the team that Parcells built for almost no apparent reason. Then in 2005, he traded a first round pick for a Doug Jolley, who wasn't even considered one of the league's best tight ends, and used the second round pick on a kicker, who to this day is not even one of the top 10 kickers in the league. It was literally like he made all his decisions by pulling things out of a hat. Except for Matt Milan, Bradway was possibly the worst GM in the league over the past 2 decades.
Two things: (1) We've all got some picks right over the years. Give me 10 drafts and I'll find a handful of players that the Jets would overlook who turn out to be a success (and probably an equal number of turds.) (2) If he did have strong feelings about these players that we didn't draft, what was his purpose? He either wasn't strong enough in his opinion (pointless employing Bradway) or was ignored by the rest of the FO (pointless employing Bradway). His body of work suggests he did more bad than good for the Jets.
Funny how we only hear about the ones Bradway got 'right' after the fact. For all we know he wanted us to draft some bust over Sheldon.
bradway sucked ass in every way possible. the good thing is, he works for Miami now as a "senior scout" HAHA. This guy should write a book on how to con people into thinking you are good at your job http://www.miamidolphins.com/team/staff-directory.html
I always loved the "Bradway wanted this future Pro bowler and that one". It's irrelevant. Either you do or you don't and he missed more times than not.
you forgot about trading our 1st round pick to oakland for doug jolley and a 2nd rounder (where he drafted kicker mike nugent.)
He was able to keep his job as director of scouting for so long, because the next two GMs were not personnel guys. That's why it'll be super interesting to see how well Mac can help build some quality depth on this roster with his scouting background and his own scouting team. I remember when Bradway was first demoted after Mr. T was promoted to GM, there was a lot of consternation on this board over that decision - and for good reason. I agree with most posters here, that he was not unjustly scapegoated.
I laugh whenever I see your avatar. Golden age of ATHF. Happy Time Harry and the early incarnation of the Mooninites were the best.
Absolutely not. If you think our current draft hauls are bad you should take another look at the ones we had before. Bradway could have found Tom Brady at the end of the draft and it would still barely make up for all the debacles.
