Yeah I get that, my thing with the top of the draft is yes you want to prioritize certain positions but sometimes you have to take the freak talent at a slightly less desirable position if they are the only freak talent. I’m all about improving the pass rush, that’s why I like the idea of acquiring Hunter. I really want to add to both trenches. I just think there’s a strong probability than Hamilton is going to be the best player by far at 4 and if the Jets can’t move down I’m at peace with selecting him.
One thing I’ve always noticed about the Rams defense and the draft picks they dedicate to the defense is that they always draft a ton of guys that fly to the football. There’s always 3-4 guys in on a tackle. We need to install that mentality.
49ers and Colts too. The Jets need fast, instinctive defenders. Too many Jets defenders were struggling to manage their own responsibilities this season, let alone recognize and swarm.
I agree. It’s as much about changing the culture though which is why I’m big on Nakobe Dean if we can get a trade down from 4.
Same with the Steeler and Ravens to name two others. They always draft a certain type of player, and that's why they have an identity. I'm hoping the Jets develop one of those.
I hear you about the value a great Safety provides, and maybe Hunter is actually that great, but I've heard too many college players called "great" or "generational" or "best player in the draft" only to see them fall short, if not fail outright. If Douglas and his team believes that Hunter is the real deal and he takes him at #4 (or later in a trade back), I'll trust his judgment. But I'll remain in "show me" mode until he shows me.
Buffalo and KC. Best playoff in years. Some that think a great safety is a luxury might want to ask KC the value of having a great safety and loosing him for the game.
Bills defense was tops in the league and got gashed…chiefs and Bills and maybe Bengals gonna be around for years and years.
Watching this game, how big is it having a mobile QB? I hope Zach was taking all of that in and works hard. He can be good as he matures on the field
after watching the Chiefs and bills, I can't see the Jets competing with either of them unless Wilson makes an absolute mammoth jump. It is almost like they're playing a different sport...goddamn that game was fucking great. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
We need to commit to surrounding Zach. Guys like Denzel Mims, nonTE, and our OL won’t get it done. Carter is a 2 back I hate to say. They need to draft the top WR, TE, sign Schulz, draft a strong OL and a depth guy OL, and sign a top OL too.
We are not even sniffing a AFC championship with Mahomes and Allen playing big boy football like this. Zach is years away and these guys are only getting better and more confident. Plus now you have Burrow in Cincy. We need Zach to not turn over the ball and JD to load up on D/pass rush.
No they do not. The defense would just get mauled. You seriously think Zach can hang offensively with these QBs with the same level of weapons. Burrow got sacked 9 times and still won the damn game.
Takeaway from the Bills/Chiefs game: We need a lot more weapons on offense and way better players in our secondary.
and what do you think Burrow will be when he’s 28 and Zach is 25. You want to bet Zach at 25 is better than Burrow at 28?? not mention Mahomes and Allen. We missed our chances at QB. You need to play like 49ers or Rams and build a stout pass rush and fix QB situation at the end. man, 49ers in it again without any real threat at QB. Rams basically same situation - except they traded for Stafford versus sticking with Goff. Man Rams haven’t had a 1st rounder in years and look how competitive they still are. Stop with the rebuild koolaid with JD & co.
As good as Allen and Mahomes were yesterday, it’s easy to forget that a ridiculous amount of the overall scoring took place in the final 10-15% of the game. There were good throws but a lot of busted coverages. For the Bills, it was underneath stuff that would go for chunk gains, and for the Chiefs it was a lot of throws over the top. How many times did Mecole Hardman and Tyreek Hill catch and run for huge gains? How many times did Juan Thornhill give up the deep shot to Gabriel Davis? There were multiple penalties on the Bills DB’s for holding in big moments… This was an incredible showing but also keep in mind that the Jets offense is not built to look like either KC or BUF, and the offense it is built to look like has just kept chugging through Dallas and Green Bay, despite Jimmy Garoppolo.
Can you imagine being a fan of one of those 8 teams rather than an interested spectator? Damn, that would be nice.
And this also shows the value of having GM and HC working to the same plan, with the same time frame - something the Jets haven't had since they last made the playoffs. And continuity of course.
