I'm sorry but why are we SURE Woody is gone? Maybe he re-signs for a smaller deal... I wouldn't mind having Woody back for a season in case Vlad doesn't work out. PS BTW Woody has a contract for 2011 at 4.26 mill with 1 mill in guaranteed... we don't know anything about the new CBA and we have some holes to fill so maybe he hangs around another year if the CBA isn't too tight on the salary cap.
The entire offense sold that run. I thought Shonn Greene had the ball and picked up the first. ...just because Sanchize walked into the endzone doesn't mean the offensive line had nothing to do with it. Hell of a playcall that was executed to perfection.
IMO, it's better than 50/50 Woody is gone. Woody isn't a spring chicken and I doubt he'll accept a big pay cut. Vlad may not work out, that's why I said we need another option.
I wouldn't go after another offensive lineman high in the draft unless someone like Gabe Carimi fell to us. I'd rather go after an inexpensive stopgap, plug-in-play veteran and have him compete with Ducasse. It's becoming more and more obvious that our lack of pass rush is the weakest link. Shaun Ellis has also lost a step - his replacement needs to be drafting ASAP.
I never said draft an O-lineman in round 1, we have big needs at OLB, DE and S. RT is going to have to be addressed....a Free agent pick up might be in order. I have very little confidence Vlad could step in next year.
Oh don't get me wrong I too think (looking at how we handled TJ and Faneca) that there's a strong possibility Woody isn't here next year... but I think while we are in dire need of a OLB, a DE and a FS I think with Woody on the pay-roll we have the option to have him play another year if we don't have the chance to get anyone through the off-season. Also it would give the Jets at least another half season to develop Vlad. But I agree if the salary cap is tight next year he'd be the first guy to be let go (out of those who have a contract).
Like? Thank god Sanchez has good pocket presence... Agree on the rest... BTW I really hope someone between Pitoitua, Dixon (on the roster from wk 1), Gilbert or Kroul turns out to be a big surprise next year at DE.
http://www.footballsfuture.com/2011/fa/ol.html This site is pretty good if you want to know who's going to be a free agent next year (might not be completely up-to-date, though).
This guy showed a LOT today. He's really stepping up with Woody out. Another great find by Tannenbaum.
Wow, it would be GREAT if we found our future RT! I know last week he played well... if it's 2 weeks in a row vs Steelers and Bears I'm very happy!!!
I don't know if we've found our "future" RT. (Hunter will be a 30 year old unrestricted free agent next season). I'm just glad we found our "present" RT.
Hunters performance got me feeling a lot more comfortable about our next year draft hopefully being almost all defense.
they had a quote during the game in which Callahan said Hunter was the best athlete on the OL, he just needs experience and playing time
This... and although Woody is a leader on this OL he is old. We'll see... but we sure could use Woody's salary to re-sign some guys (frees up 3 mill $)... I guess the PO's will be a key here.
The question really is can Vlad play right tackle next year? If the coaching staff thinks he's a bust then it changes things. Also, is Slauson really an nfl starter? I think he's a lot better then he was in September, but i'm still not sure he's the long term answer.
