A #5 overall pick having only one college season under his belt is a bit disconcerting. The Browns made off like bandits. The difference in talent between Sanchez and the #17 pick (Josh Freeman) is not significant. But then again, these are the Jets. They specialize in poorly planned drafts.
You could be right but there is the other side of that arguement. He wont be throwing to recievers that are far more talented then the corners covering them. He wont have the elite run support he had at USC. He wont have nearly the pass protection (time to read) he had at USC. Nobody was trying take his head off in practice.
Agreed I just wanted to point out that the argument cuts both ways and the fact remains the guy had some excellent coaches in College and has an idea what to expect.
Too many new faces on both sides of the ball to answer that now.. ask it again after the first NE game.
As long as they don't turn the kid into the next Lamont Jordan. Big, talented, but no significant playing time to show what he really has to offer. If TJ doesn't like his contract, let him sit out TC and watch what this kid can or can't do. If the kid lights it up, I guarantee you that TJ will suddenly see the light and his contract will become "satisfactory". He was unhappy in Chicago too and I think him winning the rushing crown in '08 might have swelled his head up a bit. He's no Adrian Peterson by any stretch and with his tendency not to break tackles, he's overrating himself. His agent really needs to have a long talk with Jones..
DEPTH DEPTH DEPTH... shonn greene fills that hole we've been missing, once we get into the 5, hand it off to the guy.
I think we're a WR and a year or two of building depth and Sanchez getting experience. I think the foundation's there though. Depending on injuries and the blossoming of certain players, I think our ceiling is Atlanta last year and out floor is 4-12 if some key guys get injured.
I think at the very least we are building an IDENTITY. Something that has been in short supply in Jet-land.
I Agree 109 -o And Super Bowl But No Bs I Like The Trade Fpr The Qb And Rb I Just Hope Clowny Can Be That Down Field Wr We Need
For the 4th straight year Tannennbaum continues the awful practice of trading away picks to move up. If you look at the history of most of the successful franchises and coaches they do just the opposite, trade down and acquire more picks. I do think the Sanchez move is move worth the risk (didn't give up enough and the upside is worth the chance) However I cannot condone the giving up picks to move up for the RB.
That's entirely false. Josh Freeman was a prospect hyped solely on his physical tools and not his production, while Sanchez has elite tools as well as incredible production from a reputable program. I see Freeman flopping hard in the pros. He's a poor man's Jamarcus Russell. I would make that trade 10 times out of 10 if it meant getting our franchise QB and never think twice about it.

With our upcoming schedule, 8-8 would be a huge success story and a great segue into the new ballpark in '10.
Awful practice? Who exactly have we traded op for that hasn't worked out under Tanny? I'm really excited about Keller this year. Harris and Revis are cornerstones to the defense with Revis being a HUGE steal at 12. And its tough to be a steal at 12.
