I feel that Gailey was being so conservative with the O because he knows that they are vertically challenged due to our QB having a noodle arm. He can't throw downfield with power. Fitz couldn't even throw a checkdown on target yesterday. We need to fix our run game because if we can't run the ball our season is pretty much over, we don't have a QB who can throw for 5000 yards and 40 tds a year to win games. Fix the run game and the Ws will pile up.
The point about Powell is his style is not suited to be the main guy. He bounces outside rather than trying to work it inside. Ivory's battering ram style works far better for this team. Now I agree the OL was a problem, too. As for week two sure we would have preferred seeing more rushing yardage overall. But the Colts were stacking the box, and Gailey chose a rather conservative response in terms of going to the pass. Still Ivory averaged 4.1 ypc against that D, compared to Powell who can't do much better than 3 ypc it seems.
I agree with you there, he's not a franchise back, he's not a bell cow, he's best suited for the #2 role. I don't think anybody is arguing that he should be playing over Ivory. Ivory is our main guy, Ivory makes our O-Line look better than they are. He gets the tough yards, the yards they don't account for, the yards they don't give him, he just squeezes those yards out of every play all by himself. We can't overlook the fact that the O-Line isn't getting the job done, that's the issue we have. Let's not ask Ivory or anybody else cover up this piss poor O-Line play. The O-Line did great last year in terms of run blocking when Aboushi took over for Winters that bum. Now we're back to that shit blocking we had before Winters got hurt. I'm tired of seeing Winters and Colon out there, they ruin this offense.
He will miss half the season. Not sure if he's available after week 6 or 8. Either way he's not gonna be back anytime soon.
No I think I clearly DO know what I'm fucking talking about & you can go....ya know what? Whatever. Your insult has absolutely no basis & looks beyond foolish when you couldn't even take the time to acknowledge several points I made. You just wanna bitch & find fault in every little imaginable aspect. "I get it". Quite the original gimmick in these parts A shutout is a shutout. Last time I checked Philly wasn't out their taking knees. The notion that Chip Kelly walked into the locker room at half time and said " Pack it up & protect the ball guys.24 should do it." is just flat out bad coaching. If you're suggesting that got alittle more conservative...fine. But that doesn't mean they weren't still trying to maintain possession, move the ball & put up points.
I'm not saying im high on Demario or anything like that but I think you are severely downplaying Davis' role in this D. He's the only athlete in the starting LB corps. The Jets desperately need his speed on the field to compensate for HARRIS/PACE/COPLES. No he doesn't tackle or shed well. But the Jets already have plenty of guys who are good at that. Really his job is to get to spots in space & not make many mistakes. Under different circumstances I'd say change his role or send him packing..but you wanna see our defense fall to pieces real quick? Replace Davis with our current LB group w/ someone w/ average speed. Demario is a necessary evil.
Demario is a really good athlete, but really lacks the awareness you want in an inside linebacker. Let's hope we can upgrade the position in the draft. He shouldn't be starting after this year.
His speed is of no use because his head is empty. This is the same issue we had with Gholston. He was all athlete, he couldn't play football. I'm not saying Demario is exactly the same but essentially they're very similar. It doesn't matter how fast Demario is because he doesn't understand football. The time it takes him to figure out what's going on it's already too late. And let's calm down with the speed thing as well, he's not exactly Shazier. He ran a 4.6 at the combine, years ago. He's not that fast to begin with. When was the last time you saw his speed work for him? When did he ever make a good play in coverage where he was chasing a receiver, a TE or a RB and was able to make a play because of his speed? I don't care about athletes, I want football players. Sean Lee ran a 4.8 but he's the best cover linebacker in the game. Lavonte David ran a 4.6 or 4.7 and he's one of the best cover linebackers in the game. Demario even with 4.1 speed would be pure trash in coverage. Stephen Hill, Justin Miller, Vernon Gholston, add Demario to that group of guys who can't play football but are tremendous athletes. All of them stunk.
No Bueno, James Carpenter. Enunwa streaking wide, wide open for a TD and Carpenter gets deeked to allow the QB hit that prevents the 70 yard score. It'd have been nice if Fitz could have stepped into the hit and put the ball on the money anyway but it wasn't that kind of day.
Sorry - can't buy the Ghost/Hill/Miller comparison. Aside from playing different positions, DD has accomplished more than all of those guys combined. Hate DD all you want, but he's been a useful starter for us.. We can't have All Pros (Lee, David) at every position because we are stuck with the salary cap. Pay one guy (Revis, Cro, Skrine, Gilchrist, Harris) and another has to go (Wilk? Sheldon? Snacks? Coples?) or you have to get by with mediocre talent (DD). Every team has warts and no rant is going to change that.
DD hasn't accomplished anything. He gets away with his poor play because as a LB very rarely is he in a position where poor play ends up in a touchdown given up. He's no more accomplished than Bryan Thomas, another athlete who somehow got by long enough to not be considered a complete bust. And no, I'm not looking for an all star, I'm just looking for a guy who doesn't whiff all the time, who doesn't get beat in coverage all the time, who doesn't take bad angles and runs into blockers all the time and takes himself out of plays in the process. Erin Henderson is a backup, I'd rather see him out there, he understands football at least. Lattimore can spell him on passing downs in coverage. That way you have a solid run stopper and a good cover linebacker when you need him. With DD you have nothing, against the run and the pass.
Now your comparing him to Bryan Thomas? The guy who had a 11 year career for us, 30+ sacks, and was taken in the first round? You are entitled to your opinion, but you sound like the drunk guy at the end of the bar. I'm going to trust the coaching staff to make decisions on who should be on the field.
Excuse me? You're really gonna compare Gholston to Demario Davis? The player profile comparison(1st round collosal bust vs. 3rd round average starter) is just ridiculous.Davis' production on the NFL level simply blows Gholston's out of the water. Really? Vernon Gholston? C'mon man. You wanna say he's James Darling or Chad Cascadden;fine. But Gholston? When did I even mention anything about his timed speed? I don't care what he runs. I care about having a team w/ skills that compliment one another. Given that the rest of the LB corps is sluggish run stuffer types who struggle in space Demario serves a purpose. He can get to spots in space & change direction. At the very least that disrupts a ball carrier or opposing player's natural path of movement & allows time for those superior tacklers who aren't quite as fast to catch up & make the play. It's really quite simple. Ya know what? This board is just crazy. I'm just as pissed as every one else on here but the hyperbole is just so overblown & just Laughable that it's not even intelligent debates anymore. Go ahead question my knowledge like every one else on here wants to who has disagreed w/ me...Davis is not perfect & may not be in the long term plans..but comparing him to a completely ineffective pass rusher who was taken 6th overall nearly 10 years ago is just crazy.Insulting really.
Take a chill pill and calm down. You're missing the point, just like the other guy earlier. Nobody is comparing PRODUCTION. When I compare DD to Bryan Thomas or Vernon Gholston or Stephen Hill or Justin Miller it's because THOSE GUYS WERE ATHLETES FIRST. That's it. I even said that so stop bringing up this bust or average starter or how many tackles this guy averaged or how long that guy played for us. That's not the point. Secondly you don't know what we have or don't have behind Demario. You can't tell me Erin is worse against the run. DD is terrible against the run, so that doesn't even commute. And you can't tell me Lattimore is worse in coverage because DD is horrendous in coverage and Lattimore actually showed he's got decent cover skills. So that doesn't work either. Are they better linebackers? Will they improve this defense? I don't know but I'd like to find out. I don't get why some coaches always feel like they have to be loyal to players. If somebody doesn't perform or doesn't show the ability to do certain things kick them out of the lineup, limit their snaps. It doesn't matter if it's a QB, RB, CB, WR, LT, MLB or TE. Whatever. If the guy struggles get him off the field. And by struggling I'm not talking about making a mistake, having a fumble, missing a tackle, or even having a couple bad games. I'm talking about somebody just not getting it, not getting the job done. That applies to Winters, it applied to Justin Miller, Stephen Hill, Gholston, and DD is right up there. He doesn't understand lanes, blocking schemes, his tackling is terrible, he doesn't understand coverages, routes, he just is not a football player. If you disagree that's fine but this week he showed us the holes in his game once again. In coverage, against the run, missing tackles. The whole package. And he's been like that since we drafted him. He has never been a great tackler, he has never played the pass well, he has never shown any type of instincts.
