why would Todd Bowles be loyal to DeMario Davis?... a guy he inherited from a previous regime and had absolutely nothing to do with his acquisition? especially when you consider the alternatives are guys he WAS involved with bringing in (Lattimore / Henderson)

Rex Ryan got the "too loyal" stamp because he was here for 6 years and he showed that he was too loyal to guys he brought in. but even some of the Rex criticism in that regard was probably unfair. we don't see these guys play on a daily basis

Todd Bowles has been here 3 games. The fact that he doesn't bench a DeMario Davis immediately for 2 career reserve LBs might actually just mean that Davis is better than them. You can surmise that he's too loyal and that these guys on the bench would be better but you really don't have any basis for that other than wanting it to be true. I'll give a guy who's been here 3 games the benefit of the doubt on that especially when you consider theres no real reason for him to be "too loyal" in this instance. why the fuck would he care about DeMario Davis

    Bowles presser:

    - Cumberland suffered a concussion ("head injury")
    - Decker update on wednesday
    - Sheldon should return on monday, probably won't start that week, has to be eased in
    - Doesn't blame Devin for the INT, corner was in good position
    - It's a long season, we don't worry about what people on the outside are saying
    - Saxton could be called up
    - Coples had a heck of a game last week, this week along with rest of defense was average
    - Handled the Cro Twitter issue in house. "Got bigger fish to fry."
    - Winters played hard, kept him over Aboushi for "toughness"

I notice he keeps rubbing his ear when he gets nervous.

To be clear, Davis has some problematic aspects to his game. But in deference to the CS who on the roster should be ranked above him in the depth charts?

Speaking personally I find Davis to be a disappointment. He's got speed compared to the other LB's. But he has some real issues with his game, such as tackling. How can you be a solid inside LB and not be good at tackling? This is fundamental stuff.

But yeah, who are they going to play instead?

Davis never been consistently good but he has played better in the past than he did this week. Sunday might've been his worst game as a Jet.. and so far this season is his worst I think. But piling on him afterwards and suggesting the brand new coaching staff is too loyal to him doesn't make any sense to me. Bowles would absolutely love to be the guy that discovered a good MLB for cheap off the scrap heap to erase a weakness on his otherwise great defense. To suggest he'd rather keep the weakness because of a loyalty to a guy he barely knows is strange as hell and signals to me a lack of understanding of the game.

I'm not ready to count Davis out just yet myself anyway. We tend to forget this defense is adjusting to a new system and there might be growing pains. MLB is probably the toughest position to adjust to a new system with on defense. When you consider that and the fact that an average MLB suddenly looks bad in his first 3 games maybe you consider that he is just having trouble adjusting and could look better later in the year.

Yes, as in my previous post i am with you on the CS and why they are playing him. It is no conspiracy. Heh. And yes, getting the new system in place might make him better at meeting his assignments. But I do have trouble with his lack of fundamentals like good tackling.

Like I said, Henderson can't be any worse against the run. He made the team over Joe Mays who looked stellar in the preseason, who actually understands how to play the run and doesn't miss tackles. So he should be able to do something if he beat that guy out for a spot. And Lattimore is good in coverage. So there you go. Base 3-4 defense, have Harris and Henderson at ILB. In the 4-3 use Davis outside, in the nickel use Harris and Lattimore at LB with Skrine playing nickel.

yes. would've liked to have seen better tackling no matter what is going on in his head. That seemed to be an issue all game yesterday

We should be running more 4-3, I'm no genius though. Can't say I didn't warn some people about Davis before the season ... Henderson will take snaps away from him ... especially if the formation includes 4 linebackers.

Heck the 4-3 might be more effective. Put Coples back on the D-line full-time.

in college football right now there is a wealth of good young, smaller coverage LBs. Would love to nab one of them next year as it could make this defense nearly complete. even if you get one in the mid rounds and sacrifice size and every down play for a strictly 3rd down coverage LB this defense will look nasty

  10. This is where I'm at. I like DD. No he isn't a super star...yes he has his faults & no Rex's hype never came close. But he's serviceable & adds a key element to what is easily a top 5 unit league wide(at least thus far)

I'd like to see more out of Enunwa as a pass catcher. He seems like a tweener WR to me, more like a TE or HB. No doubt that the QB play was awful. Smith looks speedy already and once he gets some game action is going to make some big plays this year. Kerley is just a playmaker. Whether returning punts or making nice grabs, he produces usually when the ball comes his way.

The ONE thing that stood out in my mind about Enunwa was that he catches passes with his hands and not his chest. This kid can be productive with the proper coaching and a competent Qb. Can't say the same for Cumberfuck though.

I like DD's motor and yes he misses too many tackles and sometimes his quickness works against him.
Many guys missed tackles yesterday and mainly due to the Eagles RBs ability to cut-back, they ran well because they looked for those cut-back opportunities 90% of the time.

DD did lead the team with 13 tackles on Sunday, probably could've been 17-18, but that just means the Eagles offense was on the field a whole lot.
Even if DD starts to play "worse", I have a hard time calling a 3rd rounder a bust.

Would it be interesting if we could turn him into an edge blitzer or OLB, sure, I'd be cool with that and whose to say Bowles won't try that, its only his first year with these players. Who knows.

Anyhow onto Fish and Chips, early morning game time, getting the cocoa puffs ready.

Regarding Colon hurt and Winters as backup, there has to be somebody on some team's practice squad better then Brian Winters, isn't there?

Kerley was once on pace to set a fair catch record, not sure if he broke it or not, but his punt returns are cringeworthy.

When is the last time the Jets even returned a punt for a score? For Kerley it was week 1 2012 I think, but maybe someone else has. I doubt it.

Oh so we're going to get mostly brilliance with a couple bad plays thrown in? I'll take it. Without Marshall, we're 0-3. SMH.

Brilliance? Is that what we're getting out of Decker?

He's a playmaker. The Jets need more of them. Returning punts for TD's is a rarity so that's a meaningless stat. Kerley always gets positive yards on his returns and doesn't put the O in worse starting field position which is more important.
