Westhoff is a gangsta. He's just telling it like itis and throwing his middle finger in the air saying "Bye haters!"
you were complaining about them picking 3 DBs in a row - I didn't say they were good picks (in fact quite the opposite) but that they were positions of need and that picking a cb/s was a reasonable idea, they just got the wrong ones (as usual as this team has forever been terrible at drafting and that's a an organizational issue not a HC issue)
I agree with you on both fronts--They were positions of need but not good picks at all. If they had paid attention to Millner's injury history, they would have drafted a healthier CB. Drafting Millner and his unsurprising injury-plagued season led them the next year to reach for McDougle, another player with a terrible injury history, in high school and college. And now they 're both out for the year with new injuries.
Again, a stupid question that Rex had to backtrack on. Do you actually recall what transpired back then? The decision to cut Woodhead at the time we did was because we were stocked at RB where Woodehead was not going to get any playing time and thin at WR, where in fact the year befor he had been moved to play and was wearing number 83. After that first game in 2010 when he was cut, we had LT, Shonn Green, Tony Richardson, John Conner and McKnight, who as a rookie draft pick we were not cutting because he was the supposed replacement for Leon and our WRs were literally Cothchery and Braylon (and Brad Smith who was more of a WR/RB/KR) because Holmes was serving a 4 game suspension and was not eligible to play. We needed to promote Clowney to the active squad because we were so thin at WR and Woodhead was the obvious choice to get cut because (i) he was no longer a RB and would have seen no snaps, (ii) he was not going to get much action as a WR and (iii) what team in their right mind would have picked him up? It was Clowney, not McKnight, that made him expendable. _
I haven't convinced myself of anything about the McDougle pick, unlike you. I'm just interjecting the facts. Quoting Westhoff from a statement made six months ago, when he knew nothing about the kid, after the injury, is disingenuous. Besides, fuck Westhoff. Just like Rex, when he had talent he was a good coach. When the talent waned, his unit failed first, and then the sarcastic fuck quit because he had nothing invested in it. Just go off and shoot your mouth off with Stephen A. Hole and Michael Tuff Guy Kay Calling that a bust pick at this point is nothing but classic second guessing, and arm chair quaterbacking. Yeah, don't draft anyone who has ever had an injury playing football. Ridiculous bro.
It's pretty much semantics. The bottom line: We valued McKnight higher at the position of RB than we did DW. We did so because JM was a 4th rounder who we weren't going to cut. I think that was a mistake. The whole experiment with DW at WR would never have happened had the above been the other way around.
Except Woodhead was technically a WR in 2009. He wore number 83. We cut Woodhead in 2010 to put Clowney on the roster, he could not contribute as a RB. It was never McKnight over Woodhead. _
Wow. Any person who was there then will tell you (including Rex Ryan) that Danny Woodhead was let go in favor of Joe McKnight. You're in the Minority (including RR): Ryan: Keeping McKnight over Woodhead right http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Ryan-Keeping-McKnight-over-Woodhead-right-call.html "Quite honestly there's a reason we kept him instead of Danny Woodhead," Ryan told the New York Daily News. "Danny Woodhead's a great back and done great things in New England, but this guy's [McKnight's] ceiling is about as high as it gets." And later: "I think he's [ya] got a chance to be one heck of a player," Ryan said. "It may be as a corner, but he can play." Why did New York Jets cut Danny Woodhead? Rex Ryan's ego http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...ew-york-jets-cut-danny-woodhead-rex-ryans-ego “In the 2010 NFL Draft, Ryan was coming off a surprise AFC Championship Game appearance. He had a grand plan and the momentum to fortify the roster with players he wanted out of the draft. The Jets dealt Leon Washington to the Seattle Seahawks and traded up to draft running back Joe McKnight in the fourth round, expecting the USC product to be one of those sleeper picks who make coaches and general managers look smart in retrospect. McKnight was going to be a game breaker, both on special teams and out of the backfield. It was a role Woodhead could have excelled in, as he had been involved with the team for two years at that point, having been signed three different times.”
That's fitting, because Joe McNugget was a wide receiver miscast as a RB from his days at USC. All you had to do was look at the way the guy moved and carried the ball to know it. Woodhead was the NCAA record holder for rushing yards gained at the time the Jets picked him up. You're really trying to say he was a receiver?
I get a kick out of Westoff, but I do not see how 5'11" and 190 is a twerp? Especially from a guy who used to sing the praises of an Isaiah Trufant.
Except he was a WR and was not going to contribute as a RB in 2010. At that point he had been converted to WR (which was monumentally stupid) and after week 1 of that season that roster spot went to Clowney so Woodhead was shuttled to the PS. It was never McKnight over Woodhead. It was Clowney over Woodhead. _
Except Woodhead got cut so Clowney could be on the squad as a WR. Woodhead was never going to contribute as a RB, the only shot he had to make the roster was as a WR in 2010. He went to the PS so Clowney was put on the active roster because he was the better WR (apparently). _
The fuck are you talking about? Every time the Jets used him in preseason it was out of the backfield. I don't care what his number was. Dude was a runningback. Edit: He got moved to WR for part of 2009 when Brad Smith and Cotchery got injured, that's the reason for the number change. In the offseason of 2010, he was used exclusively as a RB, number be damned.
The dude was not making the team as a RB, his only shot was as a WR. Holmes was gone for the first 4 games of the season, we were thin at the WR spot and we were stocked at RB. It was never McKnight for Woodhead. The only shot he had was as a WR, but they gave the last spot to Clowney after week 1. I agree he always was and always will be a RB, but at the time we tried to stash him on the PS, it was so Clowney could fill out the WR ranks. Again, I'm not saying he wasn't a RB, he was always a RB (although he was switched to WR for some dumbfuck reason), but Clowney replaced him on the active roster. No way McKnight was getting cut after just having been drafted. Turns out we cut Clowney a few weeks later when Holmes came back. Exactly. Twerp as in jerkoff. at least that's what he meant about McKnight so I'm assuming that's what he means about McDooDoo. Walking into the stadium to watch this disaster, see you later. _
